GomTV announce €42,800 Blizzard CUP

In the last days of 2011, GomTV will gather ten champions and pit them against each other to ultimately crown the first ever Blizzard CUP king. This best-of-the-best tournament will run for five days starting 12.12.2011 and will offer a prize pool of 68,000,000 KRW.

GomTV will "recruit" players from seven different tournaments to form a line-up with exploding stardom:

Top 3 from 2011 GSL Ranking
Top 2 from MLG Providence National Championship (November 18-20)
Winner of IEM New York (October 13-16)
Winner of IPL 3: Origins (October 6-9)
Winner of DreamHack Winter (November 24-26)
Winner of BlizzCon Invitational (October 21-22)
Winner of World Cyber Games 2011 (December 8-11)

The participants will be divided into two groups of 5 and Top 3 will advance to the play-offs, the group winners being seeded directly into the semi-final round. The tournament winner will walk out €25,200 while the whole prize purse runs to €42,870.

Aside from the Blizzard CUP tournament, GomTV will be holding award events as well, allocating prizes such as "Best Coach", "Fan Favourite Player", "Best Protoss/Terran/Zerg Player", etc. In this same post, GSL's director Mr. Chae reveals that there will also be tweaks and changes to the 2012 season of GSL, including alterations to the format and schedule.

The Blizzard CUP tournament is set to begin on 12.12.2011 and on December 17 we will find out who is worth to be the champion of champions.
