The biggest LAN-festival in the world, DreamHack, can now rightfully be called culture after winning a dispute with the Swedish Tax Agency.
After a long strife with the Swedish Tax Agency, DreamHack can now be classified as a culture event.
- "Of course it is a great that Kammarrätten [administrative court of appeal] agree with us. That what we are doing is culture has been our opinion a long time," said PIO Fredrik Nyström at DreamHack.
And while the prestige of having such a festival is stimulating, more good things come out of this case. Tickets are now reduced to 6 percent in tax rate as the event has been classified as a culture event. Prior to the culture classification, tickets had a 25 percent tax rate.
The biannual event in Jönköping, Sweden has gone from a simple LAN event into a digital and youth festival with discourses, concerts, and a bigger and bigger focus on eSport.
