HSS Round 2 is complete, 64 teams remain

The HoN Super Series Opening Cup continues on to the next round, as 128 teams were narrowed down to 64 during the past couple weeks.

Most of the top teams in the tournament advanced through this round with ease. Not surprisingly, since the high-seeded teams are expected to crush through these early rounds. Things are difficult for the more unknown teams who hope to emerge from the lower seeds and make a long run in the tournament.

Two such teams were poised to make a breakout performance. Glittering Prizes is qualified for the ESL Major Series and came off of a huge upset against DuskBin in Round 1 of the HSS. Their opponent, vitalGaming (formerly Like A Boss), has done quite well in some of our recent Gosu4Fun cups, wearing the [Baws] clan tag. Both of these teams have yet to prove themselves in a major event, and the HSS could be the chance for one of them to do so.

Featured Match, Round 2 (Ro128)
Team vG got off to a good start, with two quick kills thanks to their triple-stun combo. Both teams' carries were left to farm uncontested, but Arachna took over the middle lane with ganks and rune control on her side. The lanes quickly broke down, and Arachna's Geometer's Bane was already finished by the first big teamfight at 17 minutes.

GPz's Predator still had the highest creep kills in the game, but vG kept the pressure on with ganks once they were ahead. They did an excellent job of capitalizing on a few of GPz's mistakes, and brought a swift end to the game.

Coming Up: Round 3 (Ro64), beginning April 2nd
With only 64 teams left, the next round gets a bit more competitive and I expect it to be played a lot faster. Hopefully, all of the results will be submitted within a week or two, so keep watching for our coverage of the HoN Super Series!
