Yes, Day 3 had its exciting moments and thrilling moves as well as unexpected turnouts and that includes the 13 year old Maru beating one of the strongest members of the Werra team. But more on that in the quick recap below.

All three games in the first match was hectic and full of action and taking more or less the standard ZvP path. Taking the first game on Delta Quadrant, but losing to a deadly Protoss push on Xel’Caverns, jookTo barely managed to snatch the win out of RenieHour after he succeeded to survive the 4-gate push long enough to amass a critical mass of roaches and speedlings to take the the protoss down.

Now was that a match to talk about or what? Opening on Lost Temple, the second game of the day faced the 13 year old MaruPrime against CellaWerra, who is no doubt more known to the public than his opponent. However, in this first game, he decided to prove to us that he can play in a manner that is as risky as it is… stupid. With the intention to going Spire, Cella decided to skip ling speed for faster lair and he just died to the Marine/Marauder push that came after Maru’s Reaper/Fast CC.
Game two on Delta Quadrant was a lot more exciting to watch. CellaWerra decided to crush the terran earlier with a Roach/Speedling attack, but Maru miraculously managed to save his skin with his few Vikings and all the SCVs repairing them. And amidst all this crisis he managed to sneak a factory on Cella’s natural highground as well! Denying him the gas and some mining time, Maru found the opportunity to sit back and macro up a considerable late game force of Marines and Tanks. His push was almost successful but Cella’s Ultralisks popped in time to save his base and win him the game.
Terran’s revenge, however, came on Desert Oasis where both players opted to go for very aggressive 1-base openings with Zerg going mutas and Terran going for drops. After failing his initial drop, Maru was completely exposed to Cella’s Mutas but for some reason chaos was amidst Zerg’s fliers and they managed to do very little damage before the Thor came out. The extremely late natural of Cella helped him very little as he lost it twice and the game entered a state of bankruptcy when both players had very little money to operate with. After couple of cat-and-mouse maneuvers, however, Maru found the strength to assemble a large enough army and send it to Zerg’s mined-out base to secure the win.

Seeing Eternal going for gas after Gateway on Scrap Station, Cool sneaked a hatch before pool to secure a better economy. However, the 4-gate push came a bit like a surprise for the Zerg and for a moment it seemed that he was totally unprepared for it. However, by the skin of his teeth, Cool managed to fend off the attack by using his drones and the last remaining lings. The tech aftershock of the failed 4-gate push left protoss greatly behind and was soon overwhelmed by the Zerg swarm.
In Game 2 on Kulas Ravine, Cool opened with some brilliant, yet risky strat. Taking the gold between his position (top left) and his opponent’s (bottom left), Cool spread the creep very fast to ensure swift movement of his Roach/Ling composition. When he broke Eternal’s backdoor rock’s, the opposing Blink Stalkers were far too few and the Protoss had to GG out once again.

One of the four foreigners in this tournament, Torch, had to play last against a member of the Zenith team. Opening with Hellions on Scrap Station, the Terran attempted to do some heavy economy damage but he couldn’t quite pull it off. However, he managed to see the building Stargate but for some reason was completely unprepared for the coming Void Ray, that dealt absurd amounts of damage and cost Torch the game.
On Metalopolis, Torch opened with very peculiar Banshee/Viking/Raven build order against Protoss’s fast templars. The cracks in his plan soon came to the surface, though, as he soon lost his two Banshees and the Raven. Not losing focus, however, Torch quickly switched to Marauders and Battlecruisers and managed to hold off the Protoss push and counter attack for the win.
Game three was much less entertaining as it developed more or less like Game 1. Less than ten minutes into the game, Torch lost to nicely timed Void Ray/Gateway attack and had to leave the tournament – an event most unfortunate for all the foreign fans.
