Moonton officially announces the arrival of MLBB Academy League (MAL) Malaysia in partnership with IO Esports.
Moonton officially announces the MLBB Academy League Malaysia (MAL MY) to empower the development of new Mobile Legends talent in the country. It was previously mentioned in the 2024 MLBB Esports roadmap video provided by Moonton alongside the rebranding of MSC.
This league will be in partnership with IO Esports. MAL MY will aim to open opportunities for local sports talent in Malaysia.
MAL MY is the latest initiative from Moonton Games to open opportunities for new talents in a region with high growth. It is the third developmental league created by the company alongside MDL Indonesia and MDL Phillippines.
One of the main targets for MAL MY is for local youth to have an opportunity to enter a structured and competitive professional esports scene. The competition will link the grassroots and the national level scene.
It will also bring together leading community-level MLBB competitors through invitational slots to allow them to compete for slots in the premier national-level MLBB competition, MPL Malaysia.
The launch of MAL MY also introduced a promotion and elimination system between MPL Malaysia and MAL MY. Teams competing in the first season of MAL MY have a chance to qualify for the 14th season of MPL Malaysia, which will take place in the second half of 2024.
Fikri Rizal Mahruddin, Head of Marketing and Business Development at Moonton Games, said, “The MAL MY announcement was made after the M5 World Championship that took place in the Philippines, where the two teams representing Malaysia were stranded in the group stage - the first time on the M-Series stage, no Malaysian team progressed to the knockout stage.”
He also states, "The launch of this development league will play an important role in preparing the players to defend the honor of the host nation and nurturing world champions from Malaysia. MAL MY also provides young players with more structured support in a competitive environment as their primary pathway to professionalism. It will also empower third-party partners and Malaysia's vibrant esports ecosystem by providing opportunities for all to be closer to the community. "
