Riot delays League of Legends Worlds 2025 music video to remove Bwipo after controversy

Bwipo’s latest controversy has forced last-minute changes to Riot’s Worlds 2025 music video.

Riot Games has delayed the release of this year’s League of Legends (LoL) World Championship music video, confirming that the decision was made to remove FlyQuest's Gabriël “Bwipo” Rau following his recent comments about women in esports. This year’s music video will now premiere on 13 October, just one day before Worlds begins. The announcement came via the official League of Legends Esports account on X, which stated that the delay was due to ongoing edits to remove Bwipo from the final version.

“Bwipo was featured in the original cut, but given his recent comments, we decided it wouldn’t be right to showcase him in a piece that represents LoL Esports, pro players, and fans,” the post read.

“Editing him out required significant changes during the final stages of production, and because he was the player representing the Americas, that region will not appear in this year’s video as originally intended.

“This was not part of any sanction or competitive ruling, but a decision about how we represent our sport and community on a global stage.”

The 2025 League of Legends World Championship will run from 14 October to 9 November across Beijing, Shanghai, and Chengdu. The annual Worlds music video is typically released a few days before the tournament begins, featuring professional players and champions from the game to mark the start of the competition.

Riot edits Worlds 2025 video after Bwipo’s “wrong part of the month” comment against women in esports

The move follows comments Bwipo made during a Twitch stream in September 2025, where he suggested that women should not play competitively during their menstrual cycles.

“When a woman is on the wrong part of the month, for playing competitively […] you know what I mean? There is a time of the month where you should not be playing competitive games as a woman in my opinion,” he said.

“This is my experience. I lived with one for a while, and she played a lot of League ranked. It was really obvious when she was getting super irritated at every little thing. I’m not trying to be sexist or anything, that’s just the way it was.”

His remarks quickly went viral, drawing widespread criticism across the esports community. Bwipo later apologised on X and was benched by his team, FlyQuest, for one match. FlyQuest have since qualified for Worlds 2025, where he is expected to compete later this month.

“I’m sorry to those I hurt. I regret using my platform to fuel vitriol and sexism instead of support, and I’ll be taking steps to reflect, listen, and do better,” he wrote.

The updated Worlds 2025 music video will now be released on 13 October.
