In effect, the League of the Americas has been dissolved after just one year.
League of Legends (LoL) developer Riot Games have announced that the League of Legends Championship Series (LCS) and the Campeonato Brasileiro de League of Legends (CBLOL) will return in 2026. The decision brings an end to the League of the Americas (LTA), which only lasted one season.
The announcement came during the 2025 LTA Finals, where Riot confirmed that the two leagues will revert to their established structures. North America and Brazil will once again compete under their original banners after a year of shared competition.
The LTA was introduced in 2025, merging North and South America into one system. It was organised into two regional sub-tournaments: LTA North, made up of LCS organisations with guest slots from the NACL, and LTA South, built around CBLOL teams with added LATAM representation.
The LTA introduced cross-regional matchups and included Tier-2 representatives from the NACL and LRS. Despite these changes, the format ran for just one season before Riot Games confirmed its closure.
LTA viewership numbers spelled trouble
Audience numbers highlighted challenges with the new model. According to Esports Charts, LTA North peaked at around 149,000 viewers in its first split of 2025, but declined in the second. The grand final between the two regional sub-tournaments drew 166,000 viewers, fewer than previous LCS or CBLOL events.
The LTA also saw roster changes at the organisational level. 100 Thieves left the competition after selling its slot, while several other teams found it difficult to build stability in the short-lived structure.
LCS and CBLOL returns to their former structures
With the LCS returning in 2026, partnered organisations such as
Cloud9,
Team Liquid, and
FlyQuest are expected to lead the North American competition once again. In Brazil, CBLOL regulars
paiN Gaming,
RED Canids, and
FURIA Esports will return to action in their domestic league.
Riot’s decision restores the long-running competitive formats for both North and South America. While some elements from the LTA may carry over, the LCS and CBLOL will once again headline League of Legends esports in 2026.This marks the conclusion of the LTA and sets the stage for a renewed focus on regional leagues in the upcoming season.
