The VCS Spring Split will be on hold indefinitely

The VCS Spring Split is officially put on hold amidst a competitive integrity scandal

The VCS Spring Split will be postponed indefinitely.

It has officially been confirmed that the Vietnam Championship Series (VCS) Spring Split will be postponed indefinitely. This comes after an investigation was conducted on an alleged breach of competitive integrity. And based on the VCS' findings, it appears to be a valid concern as they have officially put all remaining matches on hold until further notice.

The VCS Spring Split was supposed to have finished its group stage games last week but it has now seen all those games cancelled with all its results being null and void. What makes this a delicate case is that it's not just the affected teams that probably got caught during the investigation, but the fact that the entire league had to be cancelled just shows how deep it actually goes.

This news first came to light on March 15 when VCS officials announced that all remaining matches from the eighth week will be postponed until further notice due to “unexpected reasons that could affect the matches”. Lo and behold, just three days later it was put on hold indefinitely.

Before that, two games took place between MGN Blue Esports and Team Whales as well as Viking Esports and CERBERUS Esports. Both Whales and CERBERUS came out on top in their respective best-of-threes, which placed them in good stead for the playoffs. However, their results will no longer be counted.

What about MSI?

Given the indefinite postponement of the VCS Spring Split, this would undoubtedly mean that its 2024 Spring Finals will also be put on hold until further notice. With the dates being pushed back, this will definitely set the entirety of the VCS back by a few weeks at least, which will eat into its preparation time for the Mid-Season Invitational.

The group stage rankings will be recalculated based on the end of the seventh weeks' results. This ranking will also be used to determine the teams that will head for the playoffs. And at the time of writing, neither LoL Esports nor Riot Games have issued a statement regarding the entire issue with the VCS.

The VCS have had an unfortunate history with international events over the last few years. COVID-19 was the main issue for most of it as Vietnam had a strict policy against travelling during that time. However, this would mark a stain on a league that has showed plenty of talent and promise in their last few outings.

Teams like GAM Esports and Saigon Buffalo have made a name for themselves over the last couple of years with stellar games on the international stage. While this will leave an impact on the scene as a whole, the VCS have stepped up in great fashion to put an immediate stop to things.
