Worlds 2022: GAM Esports mounts a monumental comeback against Top Esports to keep their hopes alive

It's GAM time!

GAM Esports gets their first win of the tournament and what a way to do so against Top Esports. Being the underdogs in the tournament, GAM saw defeat flash before their eyes but managed to play perfect base defense and pushed back Top to take the game.

That win now puts Top in third with a score line of 1-3 while GAM has 1-4. Even though they did lose to Rogue earlier today, GAM still have a chance to force a tiebreaker. Of course, this is provided both Top and DRX drop their games for today.

The game itself was very back-and-forth with the momentum swinging between both teams. GAM had a good start to the early game but it didn't take long for Top to claw themselves back. The early game skirmishes saw both sides draw blood but it was GAM that took the advantage with the first few drakes.

But it was Top who had the advantage when it came to objectives like outer turrets. This opened up the map for them to get some key kills onto GAM, particularly Đặng "Kati" Thanh Phê, who got caught out a few times. While GAM was able to take majority of the drakes, it was Top who had the gold lead for the entire game.

However, contesting for the elder drake almost costed GAM. Despite being a man down, they still tried to take it from under Top's noses. From there, it started with Yu "JackeyLove" Wen-Bo on his Lucian who stole the elder drake before he left it to Zhuo "knight" Ding to clean up with a triple kill.

With all of GAM dead, there was no better time for Top to end the game. And with only Trần "Kiaya" Duy Sang on Ornn having just revived, it seemed like GAM was destined to be heading home in the group stages. But against all the odds, he managed to disrupt Top by destroying the entire wave and intentionally fed himself to buy his teammates some more time.

And that was all they needed with Duy "Levi" Khánh Đỗ, Nguyễn "Sty1e" Hoàng Sơn, and Đặng "Kati" Thanh Phê coming back in time to wipe the rest of Top from the map. From there, it was a straight deathball push back to Top's base. After taking their first inner turret and inhibitor, GAM went straight for the Nexus and managed to hold off Top to seal the win.

Their tournament lives now rest on the shoulders of Rogue, who will need to defeat DRX in order for GAM to stand a chance in forcing a tiebreaker. Rogue will also have every incentive to win as that will seal their qualification to the playoffs.
