LCK: SKT reverse sweeps KT Rolster

SKT stay 2nd in LCK after an unbelievable turn-around victory over KT Rolster.

With three teams tied for first place at the start of the day, SK Telecom vs KT Rolster was hugely significant in the race for the LCK championship. KT Rolster got the series off to a great start, picking up back-to-back kills on Huni’s Kennen, wasting both of SKT’s teleports in the process. They did a good job of pushing the advantage, too, killing the first turret of the game with a couple more kills, extending their lead to 1,5000 gold by 15 minutes in. In typical SKT style, Peanut tried to make plays but things went from bad to worse for the world champions. The lead continued to grow and SKT had yet to take a single turret by the time KT Rolster took themselves a baron. The game was over in 25 minutes in one of the most one-sided games you will ever see against SKT.

SKT swapped in Untara and Blank for game two, but it started just as well for KT. A risky invade from Blank’s Elise resulted in two kills for KT, thanks to a well-timed teleport from Smeb’s Renekton. KT picked up the first turret again while Smeb took a solo kill off the back of an Untara mistake to grow his team’s lead further. SKT took their first tower of the series soon after and followed it up with successful gank on Renekton in the bottom lane and a second turret to even up the gold.

SKT looked to be stalling the game nicely, but KT jumped into a bigger lead after a baron fight when in their favour. Faker managed to kill the baron with Shockwave, but his team ended up getting aced off the back of it. KT picked up more turrets from there but the game slowed again until the baron respawned. It was KT who took down the next baron as well, picking up elder drake and a few kills to go with it.

The momentum continued and KT were able to take down two inhibitors in a row before the buffs wore off. But while going for the third inhibitor, KT fell prey to an Orianna/GNAR combination and were forced out of SKT’s base with their tails between their legs. The twists weren’t done yet either. KT took down a third baron but SKT took an ace in response. Post-40 minute death timers meant SKT were able to run down bottom lane and tie the series up at 1-1.

An unlikely game three started with two early kills for KT once again, this time from a fight in the bottom lane. Again, KT pushed their lead with a turret kill and even an infernal drake secure from SKT resulted in another kill for their opponents. SKT slowed the game down, but KT were still able to take an uncontested baron, a 7-1 kill lead and 6,000 gold lead. Still, SKT had late game scaling in their advantage and seemed to be creeping towards the 40-minute mark again. Untara’s Fiora was able to get an inhibitor for free, forcing KT back to base and giving his team a baron. The comeback was on.

Now SKT were the ones pushing lanes, forcing their opponents onto the back foot. Untara’s Fiora became a menace, grabbing the bottom inhibitor again and trading his life for a baron on the rest of his team. SK avoided fights like true ninjas, taking a hefty gold lead while still being down in kills. Only after 40 minutes, with three inhibitors down, did SKT take a full on team fight. They aced it, of course, taking home another win and moving into first palce.

Samsung Galaxy, the other team on seven wins, faces Longzhu tomorrow. A win there will see them leapfrog SKT to re-take the top spot.
