After a wave of confusing back-and-forth rumors and releases, we can finally confirm that Team Dignitas has optioned their Challenger spot to Apex Gaming.
In what has been something of a wishy-washy affair, we finally have some clarity on the status of Team Dignitas.
Piet "Sui" Smet, head of content for Dignitas, confirmed that after weeks of conflicting stories, Dignitas was indeed stepping away from the Challenger series, opening room for Apex Gaming to form a second team. Reports initially claimed that they had sold the roster spot, and later reports claimed that they had not. The latest piece, however, is a definitive answer to all the doubt orbiting about in the twitterverse.
We've learned (after reporting only days earlier that the spot was not sold) that if a detail is not present, it is not safe to expand on it. Knowing this, it should be noted that the terminology used in the article indicated that Dignitas was "transferring" their spot to Apex rather than "selling" it, in addition to "transferring" Apollo "Apollo" Price and Danny "Shiphtur" Le and "transferring" the Dignitas gaming house to Apex. Whether this language is a simple substitution of words or is something worth reading more into, there are surely plenty of details still to be filled in going forward.
All is said and done, however. After three articles worth of attempts to pin down the reality, we can confidently report that Team Dignitas has transferred their NA Challenger spot to Apex Gaming, and will be evaluating their future in LoL from the sidelines for the forseeable future.
