Azubu Taipei Assassins, Saigon Jokers, ahq eSports Club, and Azubu Taipei Snipers to play in GPL Winter Semifinals after three one-sided best of fives.
Over the past two weeks, GPL has been holding their quarterfinals. Each series was a best of five, and each series appeared overwhelmingly one-sided. The first series between the Azubu Taipei Assassins and Full Louis ended after three games in which SofM desperatedly attempted to make plays and even made an appearance on mid lane Jayce. It was simply not to be, as TPA advanced to the next round.
The Saigon Jokers faced HK Attitude. Despite the Hong Kong team's success in the group stage, having earned a higher seed than the Saigon Jokers, they lost the first two games. PaSa's Ziggs managed to get a foot hold in Game Three and earn the only victory for a knocked out team in the quarterfinales. Unfortunately, however, the Jokers came back stronger than ever in Game Four and took the spot in the semifinals.
In the third set, the ahq eSports Club continued their regional dominance and all but walked over the Singapore Sentinels. The acquisition of Kryonics has not been the boost the team needed so far this season, and ahq advanced easily.
In the fourth set, though the Azubu Taipei Snipers have been struggling to nail down a roster this season, they still made quick work of Mineski. Mistake's squad found better picks in champion select, and there was very little Mineski could do against the kiting and poking TPS' composition brought out in Game Three.
The Garena Premier League Playoffs continue on Wednesday at 11:00 CET with the semifinal match between the Taipei Assassins and the Saigon Jokers. Watch to see if the Vietnamese team can pull another upset against the top seeded team from Group A, or if they'll lose to TPA as they did in their previous two encounters.
