Fnatic and Gambit Gaming to compete at IEM Cologne

IEM Cologne polls close for Europe, adding Fnatic and Gambit to the list of six teams primed to compete.

Facebook polls opened for European teams after Cloud 9 Hyper X and Counter Logic Gaming were selected to represent North America at Intel Extreme Masters Cologne.  The fan vote results ranked the candidates, and Fnatic and Gambit Gaming came out on top.

  1. fnatic: 47.6% votes
  2. Gambit Gaming: 30.3% votes
  3. Team EG: 17.9% votes
  4. Team Alternate: 2.7% votes
  5. Lemondogs: 1.5% votes

Fnatic, semifinalists at the Season 3 World Championships in Los Angeles, were present in almost all votes, as votes required pollsters to select two teams.  Their overwhelming popularity allows them to bypass the group stage alongside North America's Cloud 9, who they faced in quarterfinals at the World Championships.

Gambit Gaming, who also made it past the group stage in LA, were selected as the second team to represent Europe at IEM.  They will battle it out in the group stages for a spot in the semifinals alongside North America's Counter Logic Gaming and the teams to qualify from  Turkey and CIS.

Despite being the third team to represent Europe at the World Championships and the team with the most wins in the European LCS Summer Split, the Lemondogs received a meager 1.5% of fan votes, placing them at the bottom of the poll after Evil Geniuses, and Team Alternate.  These bottom three teams will not be competing at IEM Cologne.
