DreamHack ZOWIE Open Austin – Day 3 Recap

Day three of DreamHack ZOWIE Open: Austin 2016 has concluded with an all Brazilian Grand Final. We've got the recap of all matches that took place yesterday.

Brazil Tempo Storm vs. United States Cloud9 – 07:08, 06:08 (13:16); 09:06, 06:09, 02:01, 02:00 (19:16); 13:02, 03:09 (16:11)
Winner: Brazil Tempo Storm – 2:1
Maps: de_cobblestone, de_inferno, de_cache
MVP: United States Jake "Stewie2k" Yip

Tempo Storm had a bad start on de_cobble, as Cloud9 quickly built a 05:00 lead. Costly rounds made Cloud9 go on a save once Tempo Storm managed to pick two rounds, making this three in a row later. Despite the bad start earlier, the Brazilian team managed to come out on top 08:07 after the first half. The North American-Canadian mix picked up the pistol round of the second half, only to lose against a MP9 force-buy by the Brazilians. Mounting somewhat of a comeback as five more rounds have gone out of their hands, Cloud9 would eventually win their map pick with 16:13.

On de_inferno Cloud9 once again won a comfortable pistol round but lost the anti-force buy. With their economy reset immediately after the first gun round, the American-Canadian team failed to secure close rounds against their opponents. Tempo Storm looked to close out the second map after the first two gun rounds were won, but a double AWP setup worked out for Cloud9 to take it back to 13:11. Cloud9 was on the brink of winning the game, but Tempo Storm refused to give up, rescuing themselves into overtime. Cloud9 did not manage to break the Brazilians, as they came out on top with a 19:16 victory.

Winning the pistol round as attacker, Tempo Storm looked unstoppable on de_cache. Winning even unlikely situations, the Brazilian team hammered down the defense of Cloud9 again and again. As the American-Canadian team lost the pistol round it looked over, but Cloud9 relied with a quick push towards A-site with a force buy. Pushing themselves through two low buy rounds as well as the first gunround, Cloud9 even managed to secure another two gunrounds. It took a while before Tempo Storm finally denied the comeback of Cloud9, winning the third map with 16:11 before advancing to the Grand Final.

Brazil Luminosity vs. United States Team Liquid – 10:05, 06:01 (16:06); 08:07, 08:07 (16:14)
Winner: Brazil Luminosity – 2:0
Maps: de_dust2, de_train
MVP: Brazil Marcelo "coldzera" David

In the second semi-final between Luminosity and Team Liquid, things kicked off on de_dust2 with the Brazilian team as defender. It took Liquid six rounds to secure their first round only to get reset right away. As koosta managed to beat fer in a 1 vs. 1 in the tenth round, Liquid secured three more rounds for a 05:10 first half. Shortly after, Gabriel "FalleN" Toledo picked up map one with a clutch 1 vs. 2.

The first round of de_train saw Liquid as attacker winning the pistol round despite a triple kill by FalleN. Securing the third round, and first gunround, with a quick A-site push, things eventually fell apart for Team Liquid as they lost an anti-Eco. Luminosity then went on for a six round streak, ending the half 08:07 in the favour of the Brazilians. The North American team managed to secure the pistol round in the second half but fell once again to a force buy. Despite all efforts, the Brazilian team marched on for victory, closing it out 16:14 for the all Brazilian Grand Final.

Brazil Luminosity vs. Brazil Tempo Storm – 09:06, 07:03 (16:08); 09:06, 07:03 (16:08)
Winner: Brazil Luminosity – 2:0
Maps: de_mirage, de_cobblestone
MVP: Brazil Marcelo "coldzera" David

The Grand Finals at DreamHack Austin 2016 saw the two Brazilian teams starting on de_mirage as first map. Luminosity gained a early advantage as attacker, demonstrating what they're made of. The first half ended with 09:06 in their favour. Changing sides, Tempo Storm was still unable to match their opponents experience and thus game sense as LG went on for the 16:08 victory on the first map.

On de_cobble we would see a kind of dejavu as Luminosity, this time starting as defender, kicked things off again with 09:06 against their countrymen. Tempo Storm tried to fight their way back into the game, but rounds went quickly out of their hand as LG countered almost every play. The game ended with 16:09, meaning the current Major Champion conquered yet another title this year.
