sGPL: TreK vs Eriador

[s]sgpl[/s]The first match of the 3rd round of sGPL Season 1 has ended. It was Sweden Fredrik "TreK" Nelson who was playing Norway Eivind "Eriador" Leknes. Both of them have already qualified for the second group stage, but the match was played for first and the second place. Both of them were unbeaten before this match began, but for one of them this would soon come to an end...

Game 1 - Sneaking
It all began on Nostalgia, which was the official map of round 3. Eriador chose random fearlessly and became terran, bottom left. TreK with his mighty Zerg starting bottom right. TreK made his first hatchery at the expansion as Eriador was rushing at him with marines and a couple of SCVs. TreK managed to handle the rush, and tried to counter as soon as possible. But no, no, marines blocked the entrace to the main of the Norweigan team liquid member.

As the upgrades went to medics and marines versus hydralisks, the fighting increased. The hydralisks (controlled by TreK with an Explorer 3.0) tried to sneak into Eivind's first, newbuilt expansion. But again, they were blocked by marines and this time even bunkers.

TreK made a hidden expansion at 12 o'clock, while Eriador was building Science Vessels to encounter possible upcoming lurkers.

The game continued with some expansion attacks and counters, Eriador managed to kill the 12 o'clock expansion and another one, at 2 o'clock.

Norway Eivind Leknes won the game after a successfull attack versus TreK's main, killing the tech-tree Fredrik had built up and lots of drones.

Game 2 - Close one!
The second game started on Plains to hill, after a pick by TreK. Both players were this time, again, choosing random. TreK got Protoss and went high tech from the beginning, using cannons as defence if Eriador would get some crazy idea and attack.

But he didn't, he was playing quite passive. So Fredrik got two reavers and a shuttle (which he just had used for transporting two probes to the islands) and headed for Eriadors possible expansion locations. But there were none, so he continued to the main. It was defended by lots of turrets but even so, TreK sneaked in one reaver, killed some marines and a turret - uploaded the reaver again but got chased by a wraith! As he was heading for back to his own main - both reavers alive and 32 health points remaining on the shuttle - the wraith stopped chasing. Pheeew. Close one.

Goliath2.jpgEriador had spider mines all over the map, as he was going for tanks aswell. He just destroyed TreK's 12 o'clock expansion as he saw the starports. Oh no, not the carriers! What to do? Goliaths! Great idea. But not just goliaths, he had to use those barracks for something aswell.. hmm..

A final battle?
It would all end close to the bridge. Both players' forces met up at each side of the bridge located down right, close to the expansion. TreK, with some zealots, templars and carriers versus Eriador's goliaths and tanks. They stood for a long time staring at eachother, getting ready for the final battle. Closing now...

It was Fredrik who started. He used his carriers and started to harass some goliaths. The goliaths chased the carriers as they were backing off. Most of them walked straight into the psionic strorms that suddenly were lightening down everywhere. It wasn't looking too good for Eriador with his newly bought Logitech MX 300.

But he had a hidden plan for those carriers. Up came 5 ghosts, started to lockdown the carriers.

But all the goliaths except for 4 were already lost and the defeat was a fact. Eivind left the battle field, as the score said 1-1.

Game 3 - Use map settings game?
The third and final game was played at Forbidden Zone. Both players again random, TreK turning Zerg and Eriador turning Terran. TreK wasn't aware of his enemy's race or position, but he went for mutalisks from 2 hatcherys. He got 6 of them ready quite soon and started hunting for his enemy. He found him at the last spot he was searching through, but Eriador had marines, towers and goliaths to defend himself with.

The situation that now came up seemed like some part of a use map settings map. TreK's mission in this little game that had started was to expand all over the map, at all the places he could. Eriador's mission was to search and destroy all of them. And so it continued for a long time. Eriador with his forces running around killing expansion after expansion, and TreK rebuilding them, defending himself as good as he could with mutalisks. This "defend the expansions.scx" game continued until TreK switched to hydralisks and lurkers, surrounding Eriadors army and successfully destroying it. Eriador kept on fighting with the forces he had left, but had soon to give up to his superior enemy, Fredrik "TreK" Nelson won the match, 2 games to 1, and seems to be unstoppable.
