VALORANT introduces Swiftplay mode – in beta for now

The new condensed play mode is perfect for short games with your friends.

Riot Games has announced a new game mode for VALORANT as the year ends. Currently, in beta, the mode is called Swiftplay. It is a condensed version of the game’s standard 5v5 Unrated Spike mode. The new mode is designed for fast game sessions when played – be it with friends or strangers online.

The mode will see players play against each other in a classic five-versus-five setting, but with some changes. For one, the game will only last four round-half and will feature a different economic structure than the standard games. There is also sudden death over time when everyone played to a tie.

The new mode will be able to play on all current Unrated maps and to play, players will be fed into a specially dedicated queue. The mode is still in beta as Riot Games gather feedback from players to see what works and what doesn’t, but players will be able to play in the mode after the new patch is installed.

Here is a breakdown of the new mode:

  • Similar to the standard 5v5 Unrated mode, but condensed:
    • First to 5 rounds, 4-round half
    • Spike mode victory conditions
    • Single Spike carrier
  • Set Credit amounts granted at the start of the round
    • 800
    • 2400*
      • Not including 600c bonus for winning pistol
    • 4250
    • 250
  • Weapon and Credit carryover supported
  • +600 credit bonus for winning the pistol round
  • Standard Kill bonuses (+200c) and Spike Plant bonuses (+300c)
  • 2 Ult points are granted at the start of each half
  • Sudden death overtime
  • The match time is approx. 15 minutes

Quoting Riot Games, the reason that the new mode was introduced was:

“The goal of this often requested game mode is to offer the core VALORANT experience to players who have a lower time commitment, or want to get in as many reps in during a smaller window.”

Swiftplay Beta is now live with patch 5.12 and will be live until 10 January 2023.
