The 2008 WSOP Champion is particularly motivated to do well after some frustrations of late. Eastgate made his comeback to competitive poker at the NBC National Heads-Up Championships in early March, where he busted out before the money.
"I have played practically zero poker the past three weeks apart from two sit'n'gos. I played a handful of tournaments and s'n'gos during the two weeks I spent in Las Vegas, losing a lot of money," Eastgate told Danish poker news site, Acemag.dk. "But I will without a doubt be the most motivated player in Berlin."
While Eastgate is first and foremost known for his victory at the 2008 WSOP Main Event, the Dane does hold an impressive EPT record too.

From six cashes on the tour, his biggest result to date is a runner-up title from the 2009 London event worth £530,000, also his second biggest career cash after the WSOP title, which brought in a record $9.15 million dollars.

On Day 1A of the EPT Berlin, there were 315 entrants playing.

Notables in the field off to a good start include Martin Jacobson, Jeff Sarwer, Ludovic Lacay, Cristian Dragomir, and Per Linde.

One table referred to as "The Table of Death" included:

Seat 2: EPT Vilamoura champion Toby Lewis
Seat 3: EPT Deauville finalist Kenny Hallaert
Seat 5: Johan "busto_soon" van Til
Seat 7: winner of many things William Thorson
Seat 8: EPT Tallinn finalist Dmitry Vitkind
Seat 9: EPT Deauville winner Lucien Cohen
