Capcom's Monster Hunter Rise Netflix begins its mobile launch.
Monster Hunter Rise, one of Capcom’s best-selling games, has soft-launched on mobile platforms with Netflix as its publisher. As spotted by RPGSite, the game is titled “Monster Hunter Rise Netflix” on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store and requires an active Netflix membership to access.
While players can opt to play using touch controls on their mobile devices, the game also supports controllers, allowing players to plug in and play much like many other games distributed by Netflix.
What’s new in Monster Hunter Rise mobile?
The 2021 Capcom hit brings its mission-based action RPG gameplay to mobile, tasking players with hunting ferocious monsters and grinding for materials to upgrade their arsenal. Its fast-paced combat, particularly when compared to its predecessor Monster Hunter: World, also makes Rise well suited to the mobile ecosystem.
In the description for Monster Hunter Rise Netflix, Capcom highlights several key differences and additions made for the mobile version of the game.
- Challenge and Event Quests previously available as paid or temporary downloadable content can now be unlocked as players progress through the game.
- A new Recovery Button automatically selects the most effective item from the player’s inventory during a fight, depending on the hunter’s health and status.
- Reworked touch controls are designed to work intuitively across smartphone and tablet screens, including each weapon’s unique control scheme. The visuals have also been designed to look natural across supported devices, accommodating a variety of screen sizes and aspect ratios.
Monster Hunter makes big moves to mobile
Monster Hunter Rise, which recently celebrated a 20 million sales milestone, is the latest major game to make the jump to Netflix’s surprisingly wide library of games. While the streaming platform is primarily known for its films and TV shows, it already hosts several big-name games, including Tomb Raider Reloaded, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, and Red Dead Redemption. Netflix also recently launched The Conjuring: Unspoken, a standalone narrative game based on the popular horror film franchise, in which players use their phones as controllers.
The mobile-version of Monster Hunter Rise is not the only mobile project Capcom has in the works. The Japanese company has been working with TiMi Studio Group, the developer behind mobile game giants such as Honor of Kings and Arena of Valor, to launch a mobile-only title for the franchise, Monster Hunter Outlanders. The game is planned for release on 29 October, 2026.
