We’re getting GTA VI before Ananta.
NetEase Games popped up at this week’s Gamescom Opening Night Live stream for a crucial announcement: its long-awaited open-world game Ananta is officially launching on 15 January, 2027. The game, which has been likened to Rockstar Games’ Grand Theft Auto franchise in scope, also dropped a new trailer during the event.

When is Ananta coming out?
It’s been quite some time since Ananta has shared the limelight. The open-world RPG was originally announced at Gamescom 2023 under the working title “Project Mugen.” In November 2024, the game was retitled “Ananta,” which bears the meaning “without end” in Sanskrit.
The game has gone through most of 2025 without updates being shared on its development, which is under the NetEase-owned studio Naked Rain. Its last big showing was at Tokyo Game Show, where a playable demo for the game was made available. Incidentally, we played that demo, and you can read our thoughts on it here.
This week, Ananta finally showed off more gameplay in a new trailer. The trailer also dived into the game’s colourful characters, anime aesthetics, and open world elements. The game seems to be an urban fantasy in the same vein as games like Neverness to Everness, with a lackadaisical protagonist being thrown into end-of-the-world stakes.

The video also revealed that the game’s release isn’t too far away; launching a mere five months from now: 15 January, 2027.
