What is Fable about?
The 2027 release of Fable continues the beloved franchise that first launched in 2004, followed by sequels in 2008 and 2010. More than a decade later, the series is finally receiving a new mainline entry, with Playground Games taking over development duties from the original studio, Lionhead Games.
Like its predecessors, Fable is an open-world third-person action RPG set in the fictional land of Albion. The game retains the series’ trademark blend of player choice, consequences, life simulation elements, and distinctly British humour.
This new instalment expands on those systems with deeper and more nuanced interactions. Players will be able to customise their characters, purchase homes, become landlords, and even evict tenants. They can also get married and raise children.
Several familiar locations and names will return, including Bowerstone, Bloodstone, Fairfax Castle, and the Cult of Shadows. Beyond that, NPCs are set to be more dynamic than ever, with over a thousand individually voiced characters and fully accessible homes throughout the world.
Who are the cast of Fable?
Fable has revealed extensive details about its cast through Xbox Wire. Hayley Atwell, best known for portraying Peggy Carter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, will play the villain Isabel.
Lily Nichol and Ukweli Roach will portray the “Hero of Briar Hill”, while Matt King takes on the role of Albion’s greatest hero, Humphry. The supporting cast also includes Susan Wokoma as Arden the Cobbler, Richard Ayoade as Dave the Giant, Natasia Demetriou as Jenny, Nathan Foad as Jacob, Kwame Augustine as Connor, Nina Wadia as Grandma, and Robert Whitelock as Nigel the Sheriff.
When is Fable's release date?
Playground Games has confirmed that Fable will launch on 23 February 2027.
The new edition of Fable was first announced in 2020 and entered production in 2023. It was originally targeted for a 2025 release window but was later delayed to 2026, and now 2027, to allow the developers additional time to polish the game. After years of anticipation, Fable is now set to arrive in February next year.
What platforms are Fable coming to?
Fable will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam.
