Amazon is “on the verge” of giving Mass Effect a full series order.
Amazon Prime Video is reportedly making some changes to its upcoming TV adaptation of the Mass Effect game franchise. According to The Ankler, the Mass Effect TV series is getting its scripts rewritten in order to make it “more appealing to non-gamers.”
The upcoming Mass Effect adaptation is also nearing a full series order.
Is Mass Effect getting a TV adaptation?
According to a recently-published report from The Ankler, focusing on Amazon’s new head of global TV Peter Friedlander, the company’s upcoming adaptation of Mass Effect is ramping up production. The report states that Friedlander is asking to read scripts for all projects in development for Amazon Prime Video before giving them the green light.
The Mass Effect TV series appears to not be in Friedlander’s favour at the moment, as the project’s staff has reportedly been asked to rewrite the series to be “more appealing to non-gamers.” That means the series is “on the verge” of a green light, but not totally confirmed just yet.
The Mass Effect TV series was announced to be in development at Amazon Prime Video back in 2024, with Variety reporting that the company had been negotiating for rights to adapt the game franchise since 2021. At the time, the project was said to have picked up several producers and a writer.
As of now, the Mass Effect TV series does not have a release date. Amazon’s next major game adaptation will likely be its God of War TV series, which has received a two-season order.
