Hollow Knight: Silksong managed to win Best Action/Adventure game at The Game Awards 2025.
Team Cherry’s Hollow Knight: Silksong is not just one of the most anticipated indie games that arrived this year, but it is also crushing the competition in sales.
In an announcement on Tuesday (16 November SGT), the studio revealed that Silksong has sold seven million copies in the three months since its launch, making it the top-selling game among this year’s Game of the Year nominees at The Game Awards.
Silksong surpasses every GOTY nominee
That total puts Silksong ahead of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, the title that actually won Game of the Year. Sandfall Interactive last reported five million copies sold for Expedition 33 in October. While it may have sold more since then, Silksong officially surpasses it in units moved, and did so in a fraction of the time, hitting seven million sales just five months after Expedition 33’s release.
The gap continues across the rest of the nominees. Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, released at the start of 2025, and it has sold four million copies, three million fewer than Silksong. Nintendo’s first-party release Donkey Kong Bananza sits at around 3.49 million based on November 2025 sales. Indie powerhouse Hades 2, tied to the Nintendo Switch 2 console, has sold two million copies, while Death Stranding 2 is at 1.3 million, though that number has not been updated since June, shortly after its launch.
Silksong’s sales pace is particularly impressive considering its late 2025 release, reaching seven million copies faster than any other Game Awards nominee. The sheer demand temporarily crashed Steam, the PlayStation Store, and the Nintendo eShop upon the game's launch, showing just how hyped the sequel was among players. Within 24 hours, Silksong had already soared past 535,000 concurrent players marking one of the biggest indie launches of the year.
The momentum continued as Team Cherry revealed that Silksong had hit 3.2 million sales on Steam alone in its first two weeks. Three months after launch, total sales had climbed to seven million, despite releasing five months later than Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.
On top of its rapid sales, Hollow Knight: Silksong managed to win Best Action/Adventure game at The Game Awards 2025. And just a few days after winning, Team Cherry announced that a free expansion for Silksong is on the way. The studio confirmed that players will get additional content without any extra cost, extending the life of a game that has already captured millions of players worldwide.
