Two weeks in, players are still weaving through Pharloom with Hornet.
Two weeks in, and Hollow Knight: Silksong is still holding players in its grip. Steam sales alone have already topped 3.2 million copies, according to industry analyst firm GameDiscoverCo. The game has also been downloaded roughly 1.5 million times through Xbox Game Pass, though exact console and PC splits remain unclear.
For an indie release developed by a small team of just four people, including marketing, at Team Cherry, these numbers are staggering.
Hollow Knight: Silksong's launch even briefly crashed all major digital video game stores including Steam and the Nintendo eShop, and in less than three hours from launch, concurrent players surged past 535,000.
Silksong stings the competition
Silksong’s dominance is impossible to ignore. Among all Steam games tagged as Metroidvania in 2025, it far outsold every rival. Some of the top titles in the genre this year, like Supraworld (3D first-person) and Sega’s Shinobi: Art of Vengeance (more action-platformer than 2D Metroidvania), sold less than 2% of what the Silksong sold this year.
The sequel also capitalised on the loyal fanbase of the original Hollow Knight, with 79% of players having owned the first game, nearly four in five returning to see where Hornet’s story goes next.
Around the world with Hornet
Silksong’s fans span the globe. On Steam, the top ten countries are led by China (23.3%), the U.S. (18.4%), Russia (6.4%), Brazil (5.1%), and the U.K. Console audiences are slightly different: PlayStation is dominated by U.S. players (25%), while Xbox Game Pass shows a strong presence in Brazil (14%) and Mexico (13%).
Silksong is still hooking players
Even two weeks after release, Silksong remains fourth in daily active users on Steam, with 191,000 playing and a 24-hour peak of 288,996, as of time of writing. The all-time peak now sits at 587,150 which was recorded on 6 September.
Twitch viewership continues to be strong, with 25,312 viewers currently, and analytics firms estimate total ownership across platforms between 3.74 million and 5.14 million.
Players are still sinking hours into the game, exploring its sprawling world, mastering bosses, and uncovering secrets. While the original Hollow Knight set a high bar, Silksong’s combination of polish, charm, and challenge is keeping players hooked for the long haul, Team Cherry’s small team has crafted a world that fans simply can’t put down.
