Hollow Knight is also getting a remaster for Nintendo Switch 2.
Game developer Team Cherry dropped two big announcements for its Hollow Knight franchise to bookend 2025, assuring fans that there is even more to look forward to next year. The first, and arguably biggest, announcement is Hollow Knight: Silksong–Sea of Sorrow, an all-new expansion that will launch for free in 2026. That’s right, Silksong players are getting an entire expansion for free next year!
Team Cherry also confirmed that a next-gen Nintendo Switch 2 version of Hollow Knight is in the works for 2026. Here’s a trailer for Sea of Sorrow:
Hollow Knight: Silksong gets Sea of Sorrow expansion in 2026
Team Cherry had a big announcement to make this week, capping off 2025 with a bang: Hollow Knight: Silksong’s first expansion is deep in development, and on track to launch in 2026. The expansion is called Sea of Sorrow, bringing new areas, bosses, tools, and more content to the base game.
Sea of Sorrow is set to be a “nautically-themed” expansion, potentially taking Hornet underwater during or after the events of Silksong’s main story. Team Cherry is keeping further details on the expansion a secret for now, but promises more updates “shortly” before it releases.

Hollow Knight Nintendo Switch 2 upgrade confirmed
Team Cherry also confirmed that the original Hollow Knight is getting a few performance upgrades in 2026. The hit Metroidvania title will receive a Nintendo Switch 2 Edition sometime in 2026, adding all manner of performance upgrades and graphical enhancements for the next-gen platform.
These upgrades include “High frame-rate modes, higher resolutions, and many additional graphical effects.” The Nintendo Switch 2 Edition upgrade will be able for all players who already own the base game on Nintendo Switch, and is planned for launch in 2026. Additionally, Hollow Knight is also getting feature and bug-fixing updates on all platforms soon.
Finally, Team Cherry also unveiled a new series of adorable mini-figurines based on Hollow Knight: Silksong characters, which are now available for pre-orders on Fangamer.
