One brief video managed to garner excitement within the GTA crowd far more than expected.
The Grand Theft Auto VI hype train has derailed yet again, this time after an AI-generated “leak” fooled millions of players across social media.
According to a report by IGN, an account previously known as Zap Actu GTA6 posted what appeared to be a genuine gameplay clip from Rockstar’s upcoming blockbuster, only for fans to later discover that the footage wasn’t real at all. The video spread online at lightning speed, amassing 8 million views in just over 24 hours, even with a community note warning viewers about its authenticity.
The post that kicked off the uproar opened with a dramatic message: “GTA 6 ALERT – EXTREMELY SERIOUS SITUATION,” attached to a brief clip that many users believed could be the real deal. It didn’t take long, however, before players began to question the visuals, the animations, and the timing. After that, the entire thing quickly unravelled.
Fan backlash builds as account owner comes clean
In the aftermath, Zap Actu GTA6 scrubbed its original videos and rebranded to Actuzz MAG, but not before issuing several candid admissions about what they’d done. Among the most direct statements was a clear confession of the hoax:
"I have NO real leaked information about GTA 6,” he revealed. “Everything you saw was entirely generated by AI. The goal was to show how incredibly easy it is in 2025 to fool people with fake 'leaks," he added.
The account owner went on to share that they were actively observing how players reacted to the footage, noting that the community was almost evenly split: "Funny fact: around 50% believed it, while the other 50% clearly spotted the AI. That alone says a lot."
As criticism mounted, their tone shifted into a more apologetic stance: "Please excuse me if some people took it the wrong way. I just wanted to do this to create a little hype and see people's reactions."
Even after pulling the posts, they continued sharing AI-made GTA concepts for entertainment, saying they were still posting “a fake GTA 6 trailer for fun” and adding: "I wouldn’t be surprised if the real game looks pretty close to this when it finally drops."
The entire episode highlights how easily AI-generated clips can stir chaos in gaming communities, especially one as hungry for new information as the GTA fanbase. With anticipation for Rockstar’s next big reveal at fever pitch, the line between genuine leaks and convincing fakes is becoming increasingly difficult to spot, and this incident won’t be the last time an AI-driven hoax spins the community into a frenzy.
