Tekken: The Board Game's crowdfunding campaign lands a clean launch with a knockout of a crowdfunding debut.
Bandai Namco’s legendary fighting game is about to leap into tabletop with unique character decks, oversized miniatures, and tournament-style play.
Go On Board’s crowdfunding campaign for Tekken: The Board Game launched on 4 August and smashed its funding goal of €50,000 (US$58385) in just 35 minutes and 45 seconds. With over €354,000 raised (approximately US$413,363), and more than 2,700 backers, the campaign continues to gain momentum with 12 days still remaining.
Trailer and Gameplay Details
The official trailer, released on 4 August, introduces the game with dramatic narration echoing the tone of the Tekken series.
“Welcome, challenger… The Iron Fist tournament is about to begin.” The trailer continues with gameplay highlights, encouraging players to use stage environments, land devastating blows, and unleash special abilities: “Strike with powerful attacks. Smash into the walls… Every blow counts. Every decision matters. Join the fight.”
The trailer also showed the board game with about 1-8 players, where each fighter has a distinct moveset, strategy, and deck of cards. These decks simulate the feel of Tekken's signature mechanics, such as combo chains, Rage Arts, and the Heat system.
Players can face off in quick matches or full tournaments, using stage boards inspired by iconic locations like Sanctum, Urban Square, Descent Into Subconscious, and Into the Stratosphere.
The base game includes eight detailed miniatures of Jin, Kazuya, King, Paul, Jack-8, Nina, Asuka, and Yoshimitsu. Each character will have their own playstyle.
New characters and expansions planned
Go On Board has confirmed that multiple expansions are already in development, each adding four new fighters. The first includes Panda, while the second will bring in Kuma and Heihachi. More stretch goals are likely to be announced as the campaign progresses.
With its funding goal surpassed and development already underway, Tekken: The Board Game is set to bring the series’ familiar characters and mechanics to the tabletop. The campaign remains open on Gamefound, with additional content and updates expected in the weeks to come.
