The movie adaptation of Silent Hill hits theaters next year.
The upcoming movie adaptation of Silent Hill 2, Return to Silent Hill, will officially hit theatres on 23 January, 2026. The movie’s release date was announced by Cineverse, as per Deadline, with director Christophe Gans returning after helming 2006’s Silent Hill movie, which starred Sean Bean.
This movie adaptation was originally announced in 2022, along with four Silent Hill games: Bloober Team’s Silent Hill 2 remake, Silent Hill f, Silent Hill: Townfall, and Silent Hill Ascension.
Upcoming Silent Hill 2 movie adaptation sets release date
Konami and Christophe Gans are re-teaming for the upcoming Silent Hill 2 movie adaptation, Return to Silent Hill. The movie adaptation was announced in 2022 as a faithful adaptation of the game it’s based on. Judging by Deadline’s synopsis of the movie, that remains the case as of this week:
It follows James (Jeremy Irvine), a man broken after his relationship with the love of his life, Mary (Hannah Emily Anderson), ends. When a mysterious letter from her calls him back to Silent Hill, he finds a once-recognizable town transformed by an unknown evil. While James desperately searches for Mary, he encounters terrifying creatures and begins to unravel the mystery of what happened to the town.
That sounds a whole lot like Silent Hill 2, though it remains to be seen if this movie will act as a follow-up to director Christophe Gans’ 2006 movie adaptation Silent Hill, or if it will be a standalone entry in the movie series. Return to Silent Hill will also star Evie Templeton as Laura, who notably also starred as Laura in the Silent Hill 2 remake.
The movie arrives at a good time for the Silent Hill franchise, which is seeing something of a resurgence in mainstream popularity. Bloober Team’s Silent Hill 2 remake launched in 2024 and was lauded for its faithfulness to the original horror-survival game. Konami is now set to launch a spin-off Japan-set Silent Hill game called Silent Hill f, and a remake of Silent Hill 1 with Bloober Team.
