Silent Hill 1 remake officially announced from Konami and Bloober Team

The creators of the Silent Hill 2 remake are officially remaking the first game in the horror franchise.

Konami’s Press Start showcase saw the announcement of a Silent Hill remake this week. Bloober Team, the development studio behind the Silent Hill 2 (2024) remake, is partnering up with Konami once again, to remake the first game in the horror-survival franchise. The announcement was made via a brief reveal trailer, which played music from Silent Hill 1.

Silent Hill 1 remake announced from Bloober Team

Konami is officially remaking Silent Hill 1. The horror-survival game first launched in 1999, following a man named Harry Mason as he searches the mysterious and nightmarish town of Silent Hill for his missing adopted daughter, Cheryl. As he does so, he stumbles upon a dark cult attempting to revive an ancient deity.

The game would eventually kickstart the Silent Hill horror-survival franchise, which gained steam following the acclaimed sequel Silent Hill 2. Bloober Team, which remade Silent Hill 2 in 2024, will return to remake the 1999 game. It’s likely that Konami opted to remake the first Silent Hill game over Silent Hill 3 because, in many ways, Silent Hill 3 is a direct sequel to the first game.

Hence, it is critical that Bloober reintroduces players to the story of Silent Hill 1 before moving onto Silent Hill 3–which will hopefully receive a remake of its own in due time. No further details of the remake have been announced, besides Konami and Bloober Team’s renewed partnership.

The Silent Hill 1 remake has no release date. The next game in the franchise, Silent Hill f, is set to launch on 25 September, 2025. This standalone game follows protagonist Shimizu Hinako, who fights to survive against nightmarish creatures as her town becomes engulfed in fog. She does this by solving puzzles and shaping her fate, as she explores a twisted version of the fictional town Ebisugaoka.
