This Mario Kart set is for adults only. Sort of.
Yesterday was Mario Day (March 10 = MAR10, get it?), and Nintendo had plenty of announcements in store for fans to celebrate the big day. Arguably its biggest announcement was the reveal of a hefty Lego Mario Kart set, which features 2,000 pieces and an age recommendation of “18+”. That doesn’t mean any adult content is included in the set, of course. It’s just a little too complicated for kids to have any fun putting together.
Lego Mario Kart set unveiled
Lego and Nintendo are continuing their long standing partnership with an all-new set themed after one of the most beloved Mario franchises in existence: Mario Kart. Titled the “Mario Kart – Mario & Standard Kart (72037)” set, this build-and-display model is roughly 22 cm high, 32 cm long, and 19 cm wide.
While it looks like this model’s tires might allow for certain owners to wheel it around while making loud vroom-vroom noises on the carpet, it’s actually meant to be posed and left alone. The kart comes with a stand that allows you to pose it at dynamic angles, depending on whether you’d like to have Mario speeding along your shelf or carelessly drifting into a nearby wall.

The Mario figure included in this box is different from Lego’s existing Super Mario minifigure, which has battery-operated digital features like collecting coins and beating up Bowser for lunch money. Clocking in at 1,972 pieces, this brick-built model is positioned as more of a collectible for adults, rather than an actual toy for kids.
The Mario Kart – Mario & Standard Kart set can be pre-ordered now for US$169.99, before it launches on 15 May, 2025.
