Remember Malaysia JohnRambo, the Malaysian three times WCG qualifier? I just found an interesting news article that mentions him and the subject of cyber sports versus athletics sports. A few quotes.THE Athens 2004 Olympics has come and gone, with the Malaysian contingent winning the same number of medals as those from war-torn Iraq and bombed-out Afghanistan – none.

For crying out loud, even the poorly-financed, undernourished athletes of reclusive North Korea managed to take home four silver medals and a bronze.

Perhaps it’s time to focus our attention on alternative sports instead – computer games. After all, we're probably better at this nowadays. Generally, the youth of today spend more time.. in cybercafés than playing football in a field.
This is the part about Malaysia JohnRambo. In the StarCraft: Brood War event, another former champion successfully defended his title. Although it was the third successive time he had won this event, the grin on James Foo's face was still really wide.

“I’m glad I won and I’m excited about representing the country again. I’m trying not to think too much about it, though,” he said. In his previous attemps at the WCG grand finals, Foo got eliminated in the group stages.

“I get a little nervous when I play, especially when the competition is good,” he said. Foo, 20, noted that the popularity of the StarCraft event at WCG 2004 Malaysia seemed to be waning among local gamers. “It would have been nice to see more players during the tournament, but even so, the competition was still quite strong,” he added.
You can read the whole article at the link below. A new spin on cyber athletes I guess. Somehow, I think that our passion for this game should never make us forget to spend some time in more physical sports too. Balance is always good.
