BetBoom Team eliminate LGD Gaming to advance to Dota 2 Esports World Cup Playoffs

BetBoom Team claim the next Playoff berth by cruising past LGD Gaming at the Dota 2 Esports World Cup.

Eastern European Dota 2 powerhouse BetBoom Team have bested South America’s LGD Gaming in the final round of the Survival Stage to claim a Playoff berth at the Dota 2 Esports World Cup (EWC) 2026. They become the third team to prevail in the Survival Stage, securing a Top 8 placement guarantee at the landmark event.

Heading into the series, the victory could have gone either way. LGD entered with a recent runner-up finish at BLAST Slam VII, firmly establishing themselves among the top contenders in this event. However, BetBoom are no ordinary opponent either. The Eastern European lineup have remained a consistent presence at the top of the scene for a long time, and this season in particular, have seen them achieve greater success than ever before, bagging several podium results including a victory at PGL Wallachia Season 8.

It was a matchup expected to challenge both sides, but BetBoom Team rose to the occasion, convincingly stomping LGD Gaming in both games. With this win, BetBoom Team become the third team to advance from the Survival Stage, following Rune Eaters Esports and Team Spirit. They join Group Stage leaders who advanced directly to the Playoffs, comprising Nigma Galaxy, Team Falcons, PARIVISION, and Team Yandex.

Meanwhile, LGD exit the event with an underwhelming 9th–12th place finish and US$40,000 in prize money. They join Team Liquid and Aurora Gaming among the teams eliminated from the Survival Stage, forming a surprising group of powerhouses that have fallen short of expectations at this tournament.

How LGD Gaming and BetBoom Team performed in the Group Stage

The result of the showdown aligned closely with what was shown during last week’s Group Stage, where LGD endured a more difficult campaign compared to BetBoom.

BetBoom Team were placed in Group A alongside Team Falcons, Rune Eaters, Xtreme Gaming, GamerLegion, and Poor Rangers. Naturally, BetBoom were considered one of the favourites alongside Team Falcons, and the results reflected those expectations. They defeated every other team in the group, while drawing against Falcons and rising contenders Rune Eaters, ultimately securing second place in Group A.

Meanwhile, LGD Gaming endured a more turbulent Group Stage run. They were placed in Group D alongside Team Yandex, 1w, Virtus.pro, OG, and IC x Insanity. LGD dropped full series against heavyweights Yandex and 1w–a result that was somewhat expected given the opposition. However, they also conceded a map to Virtus.pro, despite sweeping OG and IC x Insanity, leaving them in third place.

As a result, LGD Gaming had to fight through the first round of the Survival Stage for their Playoff hopes, where they swiftly defeated MOUZ 2-0. BetBoom Team, meanwhile, were able to wait comfortably in the final round of the stage.

How BetBoom Team eliminated LGD Gaming from the Dota 2 EWC

The opening game between BetBoom and LGD began at a passive pace, with both teams opting for a cautious approach. LGD Gaming initially held the lead, as Yuma “Yuma” Langlet's Necrophos amassed a healthy net worth in the early game, followed by LGD's two other cores. When the first major team fight finally broke out around the 17-minute mark, BetBoom Team struck first, only for Necrophos to arrive in time to turn the tide and swiftly wipe out the opposition.

However, BetBoom played steadily and waited to come online once the game entered the mid phase. A decisive team fight saw them take out several heroes from LGD's lineup, which led to the South American side committing costly buybacks in a desperate attempt to recover, but it did not pay off as BetBoom retreated successfully. This further pushed the game into BetBoom's favour.

Although the two teams' net worth remained relatively even for much of the game, BetBoom consistently held the edge in skirmishes. Matvey “MieRo” Vasyunin's Enigma, Vladislav “Kataomi`” Semenov's Treant Protector, and Danil “gpk” Skutin's exceptionally farmed Lina proved overwhelming, dealing immense magical and physical damage. By the 45-minute mark, BetBoom had built a commanding 20K gold lead and breached LGD's base, ultimately closing the game soon after. Gpk was the standout on this map, ending the game with a flawless 18/0/12 KDA.

Game two followed a similar script, with BetBoom controlling the tempo from start to finish. Kataomi's Bane was the catalyst in most fights, repeatedly locking down TaiLung's Storm Spirit and creating easy kill opportunities for his team.

By the 18-minute mark, BetBoom had already invaded deep into LGD's jungle, giving them no room to breathe. The relentless pressure left LGD scrambling to keep up, and just 10 minutes later, they were forced to concede, making it one of the quickest stomps of the tournament so far. The convincing 2-0 sweep secured BetBoom a place in the Dota 2 Esports World Cup Playoffs.

What is the Dota 2 Esports World Cup?

The Dota 2 tournament at the Esports World Cup 2026 will be the last Tier 1 tournament of the 2025-2026 competitive Dota 2 season, before it culminates in The International 2026 in August. With many of the teams competing in the EWC also qualified for this year's Dota 2 world championship tournament, it should serve as a good preview for the battle for the Aegis of Champions next month.

The Dota 2 EWC features 24 of the best Dota 2 teams in the world and will take place from 7 to 19 July in the Paris Expo Porte de Versailles in Paris, France. The teams will be fighting for EWC glory and the lion's share of US$750,000, out of the tournament's US$25 million prize pool.

The Dota 2 EWC is split into three stages; the Group Stage from 7 to 12 July, the Survival Stage from 14 to 15 July, and the Playoffs from 16 to 19 July.

The Group Stage will see the 24 teams split into four groups of six teams each to play in a single round-robin with best-of-two matches. The top team from each group will advance directly to the Playoffs, the second to fourth-placed teams will move to the Survival Stage, while the two bottom finishers will be among the first to be eliminated.

The Survival Stage will feature the 12 teams that finished third to fourth in their respective groups during the Group Stage, with four spots in the Playoffs up for grabs in a single-elimination bracket with best-of-three matches. The Survival Stage will open with the third and fourth seeds from different groups taking each other on, with the winners moving on to face the second place teams for the four Playoff spots.

Finally, the Playoffs will be a single-elimination bracket featuring the four teams that finished as the top seeds of their groups in the Group Stage, as well as the four teams that made it out of the Survival Stage. All matches in the Playoffs will be a best-of-three except for the grand finals, which will be a full best-of-five series.
