After more than three years away from the competitive scene, Vici Gaming commit to the new season with an official Dota 2 roster.
The upcoming Dota 2 season is already shaping up to be an exciting one. Iconic Chinese organisation
Vici Gaming has officially returned after a lengthy hiatus, unveiling a new lineup that blends long-time Vici veterans with young talent.
Vici Gaming’s 2025/2026 roster:
Founded in 2012, Vici Gaming has deep roots in the Dota 2 competitive scene. The team made its first appearance in The International (TI) in 2014, finishing as runners-up in a performance that kickstarted their dominance in the scene. Their peak came during 2018–2019, when they cemented themselves as one of China’s most formidable forces. The team had accomplished victories at ESL One Hamburg 2018, EPICENTER Major 2019, and ONE Esports Invitational Singapore 2019, with scattered Top 3 finishes in more major tournaments.
However, Vici’s performance declined after the introduction of Valve’s Dota Pro Circuit (DPC) in 2022. The team struggled to compete among its peers in China’s DPC, then failed to qualify for The International 2022. The final nail in the coffin came after Vici suffered a demotion in early 2023 which saw the team fade away from the scene.
Despite briefly resurfacing during TI 2025 qualifiers with a strong roster, they narrowly missed a qualification spot. Many fans assumed it was an all-or-nothing effort–but Vici Gaming had bigger plans in the works.
A New Era Begins
Announcing their official return via Weibo, the organisation shared a celebratory message:
“On this Mid-Autumn Festival, VG Esports Club extends our sincerest blessings to all of our long-time supporters. We also officially announce that after two years of development, VG is once again raising the flag and setting sail for our dreams!” (Translated by Google Translate)
Among the most notable highlights is the reunion of iconic support duo Pyw and Dy, who were a core part of Vici’s success during its prime years. While Dy is coming out of a one-year retirement for this return, Pyw has been bouncing between teams in recent seasons, struggling to find any major success.
Also joining the roster is midlaner Xm, who recently placed 2nd at The International 2025 with
Xtreme Gaming. Lou, a rising star who helped
Azure Ray secure a 4th-place finish at TI 2023, will take over the carry position. Ws, a 20-year-old offlaner from Malaysia, joins after departing
Talon Esports. Seasoned coach Maps rounds out the roster, bringing with him experience from notable teams such as Xtreme Gaming and Azure Ray.
First stop: FISSURE PLAYGROUND 2
As part of their comeback, Vici Gaming has confirmed participation in FISSURE PLAYGROUND 2, a US$1 million LAN tournament set to take place in Belgrade, Serbia, from 23 October to 2 November.
However, Vici will debut without its full lineup as Pyw will be absent due to his wedding. Hao “plAnet” Lin will stand in as position 4 throughout the event.
