Patch 7.39d features balance updates while Quartero's Curios offers players free cosmetic items.
Dota 2 developer Valve Software has released gameplay Patch 7.39d, targeting overpowered heroes—particularly those that dominated the meta at the Dota 2 Esports World Cup 2025 and the recently-concluded Clavision Masters 2025: Snow Ruyi.
In addition, Valve launched a small in-game event called Quartero’s Curios. Through this event, players can earn free cosmetics, unique in-game visual effects, and even have a chance to obtain valuable Arcanas and Immortals, simply by playing public matches.
Here’s a detailed breakdown of the latest Dota 2 update:
Patch 7.39d nerfs Nature’s Prophet, Naga Siren, and more
Patch 7.39d introduced a straightforward balance update, featuring item adjustments and significant nerfs to several dominant heroes from the previous meta. The most punishing nerfs targeted Nature’s Prophet, Naga Siren, Batrider, Axe, Undying, and Templar Assassin—heroes that were frequently banned in tournament play.
The patch also delivered buffs to several underperforming heroes, including Bloodseeker, Luna, Treant Protector, Phantom Assassin, Faceless Void, Grimstroke, and Earth Spirit.
Items played a major role in shaping the previous meta, with several becoming staple pickups across matches. In response, Valve issued nerfs to a number of these, including Blade Mail, Hurricane Pike, Glimmer Cape, Mask of Madness, and Octarine Core. The notorious neutral item Sister’s Shroud was also gunned down, with reductions to both its evasion and duration.
Valve launches Quartero’s Curios mini event
Quartero’s Curios operates with a tiered reward system that guarantees prizes for players based on the number of Dota 2 matches they’ve played. Completing a public match, ranked or unranked, grants players XP, with more awarded for wins and slightly less for losses. Turbo matches also count, though they provide a smaller amount of XP.
From Level 1 to 100, a fixed lineup of rewards is available to unlock. Here are the full rewards offered in the Quartero’s Curios event:
- Witch Doctor “Papa Wanga” set (Level 1, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10)
- Legion Commander “Drakon’s Deed” set (Level 20, 22, 24, 26, 28, 30)
- Legion Commander “Drakon’s Ire” set (Level 34, 46, 58, 70, 82, 100)
- Vengeful Spirit “Maledictions of Morrigan” (Level 12, 14, 16, 18)
- Fountain Rejuvination FX (Level 2)
- Town Portal Scroll FX (Level 3)
- Blink Dagger FX (Level 5)
- Level Up FX (Level 7)
- Eul’s Scepter FX (Level 11)
- Aghanim’s Scepter FX (Level 13)
- Force Staff FX (Level 17)
- Phase Boots FX (Level 19)
- Mekansm FX (Level 23)
- Radiance FX (Level 29)
- Lotus Orb FX (Level 31)
- Quartero’s Antique (Level 5, 20, 40, 60, 80, 100)
Patch 7.39d and the Quartero’s Curios mini event arrived a month before The International 2025, and for most players, this has been an underwhelming phase for the game.
Two years ago, Valve discontinued the cherished Battle Pass, promising to replace it with “big events” spanning the whole calendar year. Now, it has been nearly seven months since we have seen any events launched in the game, with the Crownfall chronicles closing its chapters in February.
However, fans cling to hope as Valve promises that the bigger events are currently a work-in-progress, and that the Quartero’s Curios event is designated as a “smaller, free feature, to run alongside (the upcoming major events)”.
