Polaris deliver the upset in SEA regional league, BOOM start with a default loss

Polaris Esports are the unexpected leaders in the Southeast Asia regional league at the end of the first week of matches.

Claiming a spot in the Spring Tour Division 1 of SEA regional league through promotion in the Winter Tour, Polaris Esports made the most out of their first week in the new season and sit at the top of the leaderboards with a 2-0 overall series score.

One of their wins was also the first big upset of the tour. The six-week league schedule in Division 1 started with a duel between the two teams that were promoted from Division 2, Nigma Galaxy SEA and Polaris, which gave the latter the head start in the tour. The final day of week one pitted Polaris against T1, one of the contenders for a ticket to the ESL One Stockholm Major.

T1vsPolaris Esports

Despite their favourite status, T1 found themselves out-drafted and their game play was rather sloppy. They had fairly strong lanes and managed to stay ahead for the first 10 minutes in both games versus Polaris, however, in game one they got outmaneuvered by a Tiny-Io duo and all they could achieve for the entire game were three kills that happened before the 10 minute mark.

In the second game, they doubled their kill count courtesy of a position 5 Death Prophet, but couldn’t make anything out of their laning stage advantage. A fairly early Roshan fight won by Polaris led to a total domination by them and a flawless 2-0 victory.

Polaris were the only team to have two series scheduled on the first week of the Spring Tour and will now head to their next match-up with a decent 2-0 lead in series score.

BOOM Esports start with a default loss

Unfortunately, BOOM Esports, the SEA league and SEA Regional Finals reigning champions and the winners of the GAMERS GALAXY: Invitational Series Dubai 2022 title, couldn’t play their opening series in the Spring Tour due to a power outage at their gaming house.

BOOM were given about 30 minutes to find a solution for the first game. After the time expired, the series was set to a 1-0 lead for Nigma Galaxy SEA and BOOM were given a bit more extra time in hopes that the power would come back up. It didn’t happen and in the end, they had to forfeit the match.

According to Gary Ongko Putera, BOOM Esports CEO, the organization has had the current gaming house for six months and today was the first time that they experienced a power outage.

BOOM will get their chance at landing the first victory in the Spring Tour next week, on the 23rd of March at 18:00 GMT+8 when they will be pitted against the current league leaders, Polaris Esports.
