Latam Defenders take swift action against Aretes

Peruvian organization suspends Jeanpierre Rivera "Aretes" Perez for racist behavior during a match.

Toxicity and unsportsmanlike behavior by Dota 2 players is unfortunately not something that is new and has been covered extensively. Just a few months ago, in October 2020 Plasma was suspended from BTS due to inflammatory behavior.

The latest comes from South America when Jeanpierre Rivera "Aretes" Perez used all chat to write racist insults to the enemy team. The incident was brought to light by Andrew "Zyori" Campbell.

The Peruvian organization that Aretes plays for, Latam Defenders took swift action against the player, suspending him immediately from the team.

Their response was welcomed and supported by many across the community who are working hard to create a safer and more sportsman-like environment for all to enjoy.

He is also banned from BTS Pro Series.

While it certainly won't be the last of the toxic behaviors across Dota 2, it is encouraging that swift consequences are being implemented and may serve to discourage others from engaging in similar behaviors.

Latam Defenders are currently participating in BTS Pro Series 5 AM and are in second place in their group. They will be competing next on March 12 at 04:00 CET.
