Valve introduces Overwatch Report

Valve has finally introduced a system to help the community regulate negative behavior amongst its ranks — Overwatch.

Negative/toxic behavior and Dota 2 pub games. Name a more iconic duo.

Well, in the near future this will be a thing of the past. Valve has introduced their community review report called Overwatch to deal with this.

All players will now have the option to report a teammate or an adversary directly from the in-game scoreboard tab. Reports can be made for cheating, griefing, suspicious behavior that indicates the usage of a third party program and can be submitted for reviews with a timestamp marker.

Eligible players for reviewing a case will be occasionally notified below their profile pictures that they have the option to review a case. If a player chooses to review a case, they’ll watch a replay with pre-marked sections indicating possible negative behavior by a specific player. After reviewing the replay, they can choose: guilty, not guilty, or insufficient evidence for either.

Communication abuse reports will also be available and are separate from Overwatch. These can be made in the post-game window. The report will now entirely mute the player deserving the punishment. Teammates of the muted player have now the option to unmute a chat-banned teammate or not. When a chat-banned player uses communications during a match, they’ll receive a reminder of their status in the chat window.

Valve will be gathering a pool of reliable reviewers and enabling a growing number of accounts for participation over the next week or so.
