Following a content heavy patch introducing the new leveling system and many other features, an announcement has been made by Valve regarding the highly anticipated change over to the Dota2 reborn client. The change will be happening in a few hours, during the time of the change over, matchmaking in the normal client will be disabled but matchmaking in the reborn client will be as normal.
We are rolling out the Reborn update over the next couple of hours. Matchmaking is now only available in Reborn.

The replacement of the normal client with the reborn client marks the end of Dota2's transition from the Source 1 engine to the source 2 engine; some of the benefits of the Source 2 engine are improved loading times and graphics.
The plan following the implementation of the Source 2 engine was highlighted in a past blog post on the official Dota2 website, "Expect the weeks that follow to focus on ironing out issues, refining the dashboard and iterating based on your feedback." The blog post also mentions that after ironing out the issues, Valve will "begin shifting our attention toward the in-game UI, where we plan to redesign the HUD."
