Titan vs 3 Pinoy teams in GMPGL playoffs tomorrow

Filipino teams Dreamz and Execration surprised the visiting Singaporean teams Impervious and First Departure as they qualified from Group B. Meanwhile, Group A favorites Titan and Mineski bested Joenet and Arcanys to complete the top four.

Titan, being the favorites of the tournament, showed what they were made of as they dominated the very strong Group A. They were a bit rusty in their first game with Joenet, perhaps a result of a few games with very minimal play, but they started rolling once they got heated up. Mineski, on the other hand, had to endure a do-or-die match with Joenet. Joenet had a decent start with a rather interesting Bristleback and Shadow Shaman lineup, but the Philippine Gaming Festival Dota 2 Champion soon steamrolled over with good plays from Rubick and Alchemist.

Dreamz handily won over the second group after convincingly defeating Execration. Execration, however, will also advance as they suprisingly clinched wins over the two Singaporean teams in their group. Despite the visiting teams sporting multiple stand-ins, it was still highly anticipated that at least one of them will be joining the playoffs. The upset wins meant that both Filipino teams would be advancing into the playoffs, whereas the two visiting teams have been eliminated on the first day.

The match between Dreamz and First Departure will be played tomorrow morning. However, the match will have no bearing as the Filipino team has already clinched the top seed in the group.

Playoffs

The first match of the crossover playoffs will be betweenTitan and Execration, while the next series will be the PGF Finals rematch between Dreamz and Mineski. The playoffs will be having a double-elimination format, with the upper bracket being played on best-of-threes and the lower bracket matches being played on best-of-ones. The team advancing from the upper bracket will have a one-game advantage on the Grand Finals.

The champions will earn themselves $5,000. The runner-up and the third-place team will receive $3,000 and $2,000 respectively. The $10,000 prize-pool is by far the biggest purse to be competed for in a Dota 2 tournament held in the Philippines. Coming a distant second is the PGF Summer Assembly held last May, which was won by NeoES.Orange (of which four of its five members are now playing for Titan) and had a prize-pool of $1,850.
