Dreamhack Winter 2014: Group B Recap

Team Dignitas tops group B, while Penta Sports secures the second place and a spot in the playoffs.

The first match of the day in group B was Team Dignitas versus a new comer to Dreamhack, PENTA Sports, on de_nuke. PENTA Sports only managed to take two rounds in the first half on T side, and while managing to win seven more in the second half, Dignitas proved too much for the team to handle, with a final score of 16:9.

Game B.2, Copenhagen Wolves versus iBuyPower, went relatively predictably on de_nuke as well, with iBP winnning twelve rounds on CT and another four T, ending the game with a final score of 16:4.

In the winner versus winner game, Dignitas made quick work of the North American iBuyPower in the first half on CT side nuke, winning thirteen rounds, with an especially strong performance from Dignitas' Nicolai "device" Reedtz, racking up twenty seven kills by the end of the game; and while iBP managed to put in several rounds, Team Dignitas managed to finish off iBP with a final score of 16:7, advancing Dignitas out of the group stage.

The loser versus loser match was hotly contested, with momentum switching often between CPH Wolves and PENTA, often having the the Germans and Danes neck and neck on de_dust2. PENTA Sports managed to pull ahead however, ending the game 16:12 and ending Copenhagen's hopes of getting past the group stage.

In the final match of group B, iBuyPower met little resistance initially on de_inferno from PENTA Sports, easily grabbing thirteen rounds on CT, but things took a turn for the worst for iBP in the second half, where PENTA locked down the North American team, not allowing them to win single round, and powered through to final score of 16:13, securing their spot at the playoffs.
