Furious Gaming from Argentina: "The pressure is on the other teams, not us."

More in this series: COGnitive Gaming (2), Murloc Geniuses, compLexity Gaming (2), Cloud9, Tempo Storm (2), Team Immunity, Relics.

Furious Gaming walked into the press room totally relaxed. They were quick to explain that they are just happy to be here and the pressure lies squarely on the other teams. eSports is a different phenomenon in Argentina and the concept of a full time gamer isn’t quite possible in their eyes. As we started to field them questions, their good humour and charisma started leaking through. It can’t be that bad to get a free trip to Vegas right?

What is it like to be here so last minute?

Gwailo: It was really a shock to be able to be here. We didn't have any time to be here. We were told the day before we had to fly here and that we were confirmed. Also, not all of our players got visas. We had to do everyone so quickly, in the end we were left with a different team roster. It was pretty much a mess. I think it was Blizzard's fault, but more of the guys who deal with South America, but we are still extremely happy to be here. To be casted by Tastosis and everything. I still can’t believe it.

UNNXANDROS: We totally know we shouldn’t be here. We know Brave deserved to win. But it is what it is. There are problems trying to get visas. It is not only Brave's fault, but some other teams need to get their documentation. Regardless, we are here. We are kinda the underdogs but we are ready to show some crazy stuff on the stage.

Do you feel pressure?

Kobu: We don’t feel pressure, not at all. We had like one day before we knew we would be here.

UNNXANDROS: Yeah no pressure. No one is expecting anything from us. They say we aren’t even going to win. Of course we are not on the top level we know that. But we have been scrimming the other teams and we hold our own.

Kobu: The timeline has given us a limit on our practice, but the real issue is we didn’t get to prepare as much.

Gwailo: We didn’t get to prepare as much as we would like to. We have the team synergy, but we are not hoping to be the most AMAZING team. We are smart and we are going to adjust.

What is your plan to win?

Gwailo: We are trying to minimize our risk- we have planned our drafts. Most of the decisions are impacted by being forced to stick to this roster. We are minimizing our risk with safe picks and minimal flexibility.

Will you be fairly aggressive?

UNNXANDROS: We are going straight to the core at minute 1.

(everyone laughs)

UNNXANDROS: Our meta is different, and that gives us an edge. We are the team that is the least investigated. There is no material on our team. Since our roster had to change- we have new players and we are playing new comps.

Kobu: Our comps are all-in. I used to play Protoss and I am the team captain. 4-gate all in? More like sentry rush.

Gwailo: The pressure is on the other teams, not us.

What are the teams in your scrims' crazy strats?

Gwailo: We are not scrimming our group, but the other group. We have seen some crazy strategies and the New Zealand teams played some similar strategies. Some team prepared some Rexxar strats, but we thought he wasn’t able to be played until just a day ago.

UNNXANDROS: It’s not like the meta of the NA scene at all.

How did you guys come together as a team?

Kobu and Gwailo: We come from Starcraft 2. We were set to make a team to play when we heard about Heroes. We got lucky with the people we found - there isn’t much talent in South America. There are hugely talented players, just spread around. Like in Argentia, there are two teams that are good.

UNNXANDROS: Wow that’s harsh. I’m actually a part of the media, I used to work on your side. I decided not to cover this game but play it after watching MFPallytime, it was really cool.

NITTT: I always liked LOL and a lot of WoW. When MFPallytime got the alpha invitation he was playing all the time. I wanted to see how my favorite characters and heroes translated into HOTS.

Bishop: I was also a MOBA player (League and Smite) and Heroes got my attention. I have been playing for a while and here I am.

Is there a rivalry between Argentina and Brazil in esports?

Kobu: Yes, huge.

Who is the playmaker of the team?

NITTT: I am.

UNNXANDROS: He is also the most humble.

What is next for you after this tournament?

Kobu: I am actually retiring gaming after this tournament. I am going to France for 7 months to work for a friend.

UNNXANDROS: Retiring and moving to another country. After this tournament, I am playing the qualifiers for another ESL event. Once I am done with that qualifier, I will start working with a PR company so I have to leave gaming and my home.

Gwailo: I have no idea what I am going to do. I'm also a student. We all have jobs or study and it’s funny to hear the other teams complain about sponsors and money… We only play this game because we love it. The scenes are very different. I am extremely happy I have reached my gaming goal though. The team is still alive, Furious gaming will still exist of course.

NITTT: I would like to stay in the scene and see what will happen with the other teams. The other team being the one that is not playing in a tournament in Argentina. We already have two players that are leaving.

Kobu: The ones without the visas are playing in Argentina.

Bishop: I will be staying around with this game and see what happens. I am staying for now.
