Team Spirit sweep Team Empire 2:0 for spot in Galaxy Battles II Major

Team Spirit clinched their spot in the Galaxy Battles II Major in the Philippines January 2018 after wiping out Team Empire 2:0 in the Grand Finals.

Earlier this month the CIS based team had recently made a slight change to their roster, replacing Bogdan 'Iceberg' Vasilenko with Ilya "Illidan" Pivcaev in the lineup and moving  Igor 'iLTW' Filatov to the midlane role for Illidan to fill the carry position. The changes seemed to have had a positive effect on the squad's performance.

Team Spirit were a Stage 1 Invite, meaning they had to first survive a four team double elimination phase and then thrive in the single elimination second phase. Team Spirit cruised through both phases, taking down first Spartak and Effect (as revenge from upper bracket loss). They then didn't drop a single match in the second phase, sweeping Na’Vi and ultimately Team Empire.

Their impressive run has granted them their first Major event, featuring $1,000,000, a staggering 1500 TI8 qualifying points as one of 16 teams competing at the Philippines Arena from Bulacan, Philippines January 15-21.

Galaxy Battles II directly invited teams:

China Newbee

CIS Virtus.pro
