Immortals advance into the PGL Open Bucharest playoffs

After an exciting three-game series, Immortals triumphed over Team Secret, eliminating them from PGL Open Bucharest.

The third elimination game of the day would see Secret going up against Immortals in a rematch of an earlier group stage game. After Team Secret dispatched Infamous from PGL Open Bucharest, they would be hoping to have the same performance against Immortals. The all-Korean squad under North American organization, however, would be looking to do what they did before and quickly take down their European counter-parts.

Game One

Team Secret managed to claim the first blood with just under 7 minutes having passed in the game, and while Immortals claimed a kill in return, Secret picked up two more in quick succession. However, Immortals would quickly tie up the score line at 3-3 and would not let the Meepo pick wreak havoc too early in the game. Both teams were able to find fantastic fights and pick offs, and by sixteen minutes Immortals found themselves with a small lead.

But a good rotation from Team Secret saw them pick up 2 kills which opened up an extremely easy Roshan kill for Marcus ‘Ace’ Hoelgaard’s Meepo. The Dire squad were not ready to give up that easily and kept themselves in the game with some great team fights and objective pressure. But it did not last long and by twenty eight minutes, Team Secret looked unstoppable as they took down the Dire’s tier 3 tower and seemed ready to take the game.

With a fresh aegis in hand just prior to thirty three minutes, the Radiant team marched into Immortal’s base and dropped down 2 lanes of barracks and most of the Immortal line-up too, and with that GG was called, giving Team Secret game one of the series.

Game Two

Team Secret once again managed to secure themselves first blood, finding Sun ‘QO’ Kim’s Monkey King in the river and making the right rotations to bring him down. But with their rather odd draft, Immortals were able to gain some rather great lane dominance in the opening minutes. But Secret were not going to allow them to have their way for too long and by eleven minutes the score line was tied up at 6-6. Immortals had suddenly found their stride though, and began to make some brilliant plays to constantly take down their opponents.

Just north of twenty minutes, Immortals claimed an Aegis and were gifted three kills too just after Roshan fell. Immortals looked like they were on their way to tying the series but Team Secret were still able to keep their heads slightly above water as they were able to split push with Adrian 'FATA-' Trinks Natures Prophet and claim tower objectives, including a Tier 3 in the bot lane. The split pushing only gave them a brief respite though as Immortals found the perfect fights to give them access to the Dire’s tier 3 barracks.

With thirty eight minutes passed and their base completely broken, Team Secret threw in the towel - unable to stand up against the immense power of QO's Monkey King or the team backing him, and the series was tied up at 1-1.

Game Three

The final and decisive match of this series would see Doo-young 'DuBu' Kim's Earth Spirit falling as Secret found first blood in under a minute. The early game seemed to be going in Secret’s favour as they made the better rotations and found the kills to give them a 4-1 lead, but QO’s Bloodseeker was absolutely dominating the farm game and they would need to deal with him if they wanted any chance to win the game. Immortals were able to place a lot more pressure on the enemy objectives and had much more control in the game by fifteen minutes.

Even with their map control and lead, Immortals did not seem to have a firm grip on the game and as Secret found more and more farm, they seemed to get closer to finding a way into the game. As the Dire moved in to try move onto the high ground, they were met with a stern defense from Secret, who dropped 3 key members of the Dire’s line up without losing too much. But with an Aegis in hand, Immortals moved in through the bot lane and took the barracks along with quite a few heroes. After backing out for just a moment, the Dire side moved back in to take down the remaining lanes of barracks, giving them mega creeps and leaving Secret’s base in tatters.

With fifty minutes passed, Secret could no longer defend their ancient and called GG. Immortals will stay alive in PGL Open Bucharest, while unfortunately for Team Secret, their road ends here.

With that, Group A comes to a close, with just one final elimination match left for today from Group B. You can find all the information on the teams and action at PGL Open Bucharest here.
