TI 7 European open qualifiers # 2 winners, Planet Dog deliver the big surprise in the regionals

Day one of the European regional qualifiers for The International 2017 closes with a big surprise as the newly formed Planet Dog are the leaders of the pack.

The European favorites to qualify to TI 7, Team Secret are third in the group after the first day of matches while Mousesports are in sixth place followed by Alliance in seventh. Against all expectations and predictions, Planet Dog, who have claimed their right to play in the regional qualifiers from open brackets, are at the top of the group with five victories and one loss so far. Planet Dog was formed only a day before the open qualifiers for The International 2017 began and features four of the ex Prodota Gaming players as well as the ex-carry of Elements Pro Gaming.

Planet Dog roster from position 1 to 5:

Serbia Uroš 'Swiftending' Gali?
Greece Greg 'Keyser' Kallianiotis
Israel Neta '33/TheCoon' Shapira
Belarus Alexei 'j4' Lipai
Bosnia and Herzegovina Milan 'Milan' Kozomara

Planet Dog’s only loss on the first day of the matches registered against Alliance, however the Swedish team is not doing well at all so far, as they place seventh so far, with 2 victories and 3 losses. The main favorites in the European qualifiers, Team Secret have played four matches so far with an overall 3-1 score, the only loss being against Mouz.

The group is far from being decided however, with day two having great potential to fully change the current standings. Planet Dog, who are now leaders of the pack, do have another four games to play and one of those four matches is against Secret. The good news for Planet Dog is that they have already defeated Singularity who now stands on the second place in the group with 3 wins and one loss.

There are only two spots available at TI 7 for the European teams, and the winner of the group stage will be the first team from the region to claim their tickets to Seattle. Second to fifth place in the group will advance in a double elimination bracket, best-of-three games and a deciding best-of-five grand final.

European regional qualifiers format:

Phase one:

10 teams - Round Robin group, bo1
1st place qualify to TI 7
2nd to 5th place advance to phase two

Phase two:

4 teams - Double Elimination bracket, bo3 series
Grand finals are bo5, winner qualify to TI 7

Day two of the European regional qualifiers group stage will commence at 10:00 CEST with Singularity vs PENTA Sports. Planet Dog's first match on the second day is scheduled to commence around 12:30 CEST and it will be against Danish Bears (4th place in the group right now) while their game against Secret will be held in the evening, around 18:30 CEST.
