Super Smash Bros. Melee MLG details unveiled

SSBM is back and kicking in the competitive scene and will feature a total prize purse of $15,000.

Following the ultra-successful competitive resurgance of Super Smash Bros. Melee at last year's EVO netting over 100,000 viewers and a powerful, 8-episode documentary that took a look of Smash's biggest professionals, MLG has finally allowed the thirteen year old title back in the competitive circuit of MLG.

The prize purse totals to $15,000, though entrants must pay an entry fee from $55 to $125 depending on the sign-up date. First place brings home $5,000 with prizes being distributed all the way down to 7th place being rewarded $500 with the detailed prize distribution as follows:

  • 1st = $5000
  • 2nd = $3000
  • 3rd = $2000
  • 3rd = $2000
  • 5th = $1000
  • 5th = $1000
  • 7th = $500
  • 7th = $500

 

The bracket is 1v1 and will feature up to 1024 entrants in a double elimination best of three format with a Pool Play bracket of 16 players.  This all leads up to the Championship bracket, which will also be played in double elimination format in a BO5 format with the grand finals being BO11. The games are played from Friday to Sunday with the times as follows:

Friday = 2:30 PM - 12:30 AM
Saturday = 10:00 AM - 11:00 PM
Sunday = 10:00 AM - 8:30 PM
