At 02.01 this year, the NASL announced their first team league event as well as the first half of teams to be contending. Those were the top four finishers at the GosuCoaching Premiere League Season 2, namely Evil Geniuses, Team Empire, Mousesports and Team Liquid.

Less than a week later, NASTL saw its first qualifier and found its fifth and sixth team. Team Reign, hosting players like Kiwikaki and Slush in its roster, slapped down the growing new team of eSahara as well as the revamped and returning Team Light - the family of ex-Fnatic manager Xeris. The lower part of the bracket was conquered by FXO, who had a much tougher competition in the face of Dignitas, RoxKis and GamaBears.

One week later the NASTL team pool was completed as Quantic Gaming and RoxKis were the best performing teams in the second qualifier. In the last two rounds, Quantic put an end to Complexity's and Itsgosu's hopes for a NASTL spot by defeating the both 4-2 in close series. RoxKis, on the other hand, won their seed by dominating Team Light, who once again made it deep into the qualifier, with a 4-0, although their previous matches were much more even.

The thus formed line-up will enter a seven-week round robin phase where the teams will battle in a Bo7 all-kill format for the total prize pool of $10,000 and by march, the winner of the first NASTL season will be crowned.
