The Bounty Shootout saw 76 players sign up for the two-day event, creating a $780,000 prizepool.
Mercier met Eugene Katchalov, Kriegenbergh, Michael Pesek, Jonathan Jaffe, Jimmy Guinther, Scott Blackman, Micah Raskin and Joe Sweeney at the final table.
Katchalov began heads-up play ahead, but little by little Mercier took control until the penultimate final hand.
Both players ended up all-in on a 9c 8c 7s board, with Mercier flipping over 9s Td for top pair. Katchalov, however, showed 7h 8s for flopped two pair, and Mercier needed help if he was to repeat his 2010 win.
After a blank 3s turn, Mercier got just what he needed as the Th hit the table on the river, giving him his second NAPT title and $246,000 in first prize cash.
"I just try to make the right plays and do the best I can."
Mercier has earned over $5.4 million in live tournament earnings since becoming a pro in 2008, added another $246,600 in prize money with the historic win, joining Selbst as the only other player with two NAPT titles.
Mercier collected $142,600 for winning the final shootout table; $40,000 for winning his preliminary table; $14,000 for collecting seven preliminary bounties; $30,000 for three final table bounties; and $20,000 for winning the overall bounty prize.
