Game 1 | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| NesTea spawns at the top left and goes for a fast expansion. A the bottome right, BoxeR decides to go with a double Barracks build at the ramp of his expansion. With his two Barracks up, BoxeR would attempt a fast and aggressive rush after completing his Orbital Command. With several Marines and over half a dozen SCVs, BoxeR marches his way towards NesTea's base. NesTea would be able to defend against the rush with Zerglings popping out to defend, but he would take a significant amount of economic damage losing most of his Drones. BoxeR's economy would be powered by a constant stream of MULEs being called down. With another perfect timed rush, BoxeR would trample into NesTea's main with 11 Marines and half a dozen SCVs to force a GG, taking Game 1 with his signature offensive style and in quick fashion. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
Game 2 | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Game starts off with NesTea at the 6 o'clock and BoxeR at the 9 o'clock. NesTea does not decide to change up strategies and goes hatchery first. Luckily for NesTea, rather than being the aggressive Marine user that he is, BoxeR goes for a gas heavy build. So what was he going after? Two words: Thor Drop. Dropping his first Thor onto the cliff of NesTea's natural, he would take out a Spine Crawler that was building and then several Drones and a Queen as well. While he harassed the natural, BoxeR would also send a second Thor into NesTea's main to take out a Queen before having his two Thors meet up and take out NesTea's natural. Just as it looked like BoxeR would take the second game just as fast as he did the first, NesTea would not give up. After finishing his Spire, NesTea was able to finish off the two Thors and a few Marines with a Zergling and Mutalisk army. With continued production of Mutalisks, NesTea then gains a small amount of map control, giving him time to take two expansions and tech switch to Roaches and Banelings. NesTea would defend against a few more pushes from BoxeR. It came down to a match defining moment when BoxeR finally realized that NesTea had a second expansion and would push once again towards NesTea's base. At this point NesTea had speed upgrade for his Banelings and was well ready to defend against Boxer's push, but instead of exploding his Banelings onto BoxeR's Marines he would send most of them into one of BoxeR's Thors, this turned the tide as BoxeR was able to crush NesTea's defence and force him back. A large back and forth battle between both players would ensue, with BoxeR coming out of the fights with a slight advantage. Eventually, with a large portion of his forces still intact, BoxeR would then drop into NesTea's 3 o'clock expansion. Although he would lose all his forces, this final drop would solidify BoxeR's win as his newly made units would eventually march down from his base into NesTea's and take the game. 2 - 0 for BoxeR. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
Game 3 | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Once again, NesTea would go Hatchery first, this time on a much safer map to do so on. BoxeR would also opt for a fast expansion, but to the island expansion instead of his natural. Then to follow-up, he would build double gas to continue teching with his expansion. In an interesting move, BoxeR decides to go double Engineering Bay to upgrade his infantry armor and attack faster. It would then be a race to the mid-game with both players focusing on getting their economies up quickly, but it wasn't until NesTea scouted out BoxeR's island expo that things would get interesting. Realizing that BoxeR had established an expo already, NesTea decides to use a Nydus Worm to attack the island expo. His Overlord overlooking the island expo would barely escape being shotdown by a Viking before NesTea could place down a Nydus Worm. The worm would finish, but only half a dozen or so Zerglings would slip through before the worm fell to SCVs. BoxeR would send over two Vikings and a dropship full of Marines to stop the Zerglings while a second worm attempted to burst onto the island. Being unable to break into the island expansion that was a natural fortress, NesTea shifted his attention to BoxeR's main. BoxeR would offer a small amount of offence by attempting a small drop and retreating fairly quickly. However, NesTea lays down a worm at BoxeR's natural expansion and then proceeds to send over his Baneling, Zergling, and Roach army. This would prove to be a fatal Baneling bust as NesTea would simply just trample down BoxeR's wall and into a base that had Marines with no stim or shields researched. BoxeR was simply left helpless as Roaches were left to finish off the rest of his base. Game 3 and the first game of the match would go to NesTea. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
Game 4 | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| BoxeR opens up with a Barracks at a foward position just outside of NesTea's base at the lower plateau expansion. With the crowd expecting a huge rush move, they would be disappointed when BoxeR elects to stay safe and double Bunkers at the bottom of NesTea's ramp instead. NesTea would then start pumping out Zerglings to counter, while BoxeR would also continue pumping out Marines. Eventually BoxeR would decide to run in with almost a dozen Marines to take out units at NesTea's natural expansion. This however proved to do very little damage as BoxeR's army was quickly forced into a corner by a large army of Zerglings. BoxeR at this point had lost map control and was forced back to turtle inside his base. NesTea on the other hand, had something very nefarious in mind. Rather than attempting to break down the destructible rocks at BoxeR's backdoor, NesTea instead decides to morph in over a dozen Banelings for a bust. BoxeR would see this in time, but just as he would lay down several Engineering Bays to reinforce his wall, the Baneling mass would move up his ramp. It could also be seen that just as those Banelings ran up the ramp, BoxeR had actually salvaged his Bunker, preventing the Bunker form soaking up Baneling damage and possibly weakening his defences further. NesTea would eventually break in and BoxeR was at the mercy of the Speedling and Baneling combo that was constantly streaming up his ramp. NesTea would tie the series at 2 -2. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
Game 5 | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| BoxeR would continue his streak of aggressive openings and would once again end up bunkering at the bottom of NesTea's ramp. He would attempt to harass the best he can, but is eventually pushed back by NesTea's Roaches. He is pushed all the way back to his base and both players would then decide to work on their economies. After establishing his economy, NesTea starts assembling his army and slowly builds up a Baneling bust. BoxeR however, is ready for this. He had teched towards Siege Tanks, which would prove to be integral in sniping a few Banelings and providing heavy ballistic support damage. NesTea would attempt to break into BoxeR's base before BoxeR could slowly move across the map. NesTea's Banelings do break in and take out all of BoxeR's Marines, but it would be a lone tank that would finish off the last Roaches in NesTea's army. After losing his large attacking force, NesTea was helpless as BoxeR began to slowly Bunker push across the small area between both bases. It was only a matter of time before BoxeR reached the other side with his slow Bunker push, taking Game 5. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
Game 6 | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| The game begins with BoxeR applying a bit of pressure on NesTea by building a Bunker at NesTea's ramp. This would draw a few mining Drones away from NesTea's base while BoxeR expanded to his natural. NesTea had also decided to expand to his natural and at first it seemed like both players would opt for a long game, but BoxeR had other plans. BoxeR would move out with just eight Marines and head straight into NesTea's base trying to deal as much damage as he could, but this was a disastrous mistake as NesTea had a large group of Zerglings already produced that just ripped BoxeR's Marines to shreds. At this point there was no stopping NesTea from simply just pummeling his way into BoxeR's base with his Zerglings. At one point NesTea had even cancelled several Banelings that were morphing, realizing that all he needed were several more Zerglings to finish the job. BoxeR, once again showing very poor judgment in attacking at the most inopportune times. Akin to the first Marine push that he had in the game on Jungle Basin, this push was far worst as he had no back up or contingency plan had the Marine push failed. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
Game 7 | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| It all came down to one game to decide the champion of the Second GSL Open Season. Both players had spawned very close to each other with NesTea at the 12 o'clock and BoxeR at the 3 o'clock. With a simple double Barracks open BoxeR would attempt to replicate his earlier success in rushing. Aiding his endeavour was a fast expanding NesTea who had gone hatchery first once again as he had so many times in this series. BoxeR would then move out with several Marines and all of his SCVs in an attempt to grab the deciding match in this long series, but NesTea would counter as he risked all of his Drones in defence. NesTea would kite BoxeR's rush around to buy time for the Zerglings that he had morphing in. Once the Zerglings were out, it was a whole different scenario as BoxeR was forced to run away from the large Zerg forces. All NesTea needed at this point was one good surround and he would have the Terran army at his mercy. And one surround he got. Reinforcements would arrive for BoxeR, but it was no use as NesTea had enough minerals to even put up a Spine Crawler at his natural. BoxeR tried desparately to harass NesTea and to gain whatever advantage he could get, but there were no openings for BoxeR. Instead he would be forced back with a large force of Zerglings. BoxeR's forces would not be able to run away from this in time and with what little forces that he did get away with, they were simply ignored. NesTea's Zerglings would bypass several Marines and run straight into BoxeR's base to help their Zerg master take the championship in Season 2 of the GSL Open. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
