The German national team is completed

Finally the build up for the german national Team in SC2, the "Ger-Team" is complete.

With rinets, Justafanatic and aKa.Nemesis as the organisation, the buildup of the German team began roughly a month ago.

The Ger-team consists of two teams, like back in the days of StarCraft: Brood War. The Ger-A Team will play the big events for SC2, like the Nation War League and generally attain at those with slightly more reputation. The Ger-B team is supposed to attain those events of slightly less public interest but will participate in Nationwars nevertheless.

However, additional to those two teams a german nationladder is hosted with sponsorship of ESL-TV. This ladder will give ambitious players the chance to climb up the ranks and take a challenge versus players of the Ger-Team.

So as you can see, the first two spots of the nationladder will be able to challenge the seventh and the eight rank of the Ger-B team. The same is true for the first two ranks of the Ger-B team and seventh and eight of Ger-A. In that fashion it is made sure, that the Ger Team can still evolve and skilled players have the opportunity to reach the Ger-B Team and afterwards even Ger-A.

Socke Mardow

The nationladder will be held in an ELO System. For the Ger Team the ranking is defined by a score for each player. These scores composes itself of the nationwar successes of that player and his results in the internal matches. Thus the ranking will be set up. The challenges for relegation either into Ger-A or Ger-B Team are played once a month.

So far the ranking for either of the teams is not yet set as not all internal matches have been played yet.

Of the sixteen Ger-Team members, twelve were directly invited by the admins due to their skill and tournament successes. SeppL, Diehilde and Skyliner were able to qualify into the first two qualification tournaments. Insolence qualified afterwards as the invited player xlord turned down his Ger-Team spot in preference of Warcraft 3.

gnu.marine.jpg Christoph "rinets" Müller is one of the managers of the german national team. The following interview provides some insight in his thoughts on the Ger-Team.

How did you come up to launch the Ger-Team for SC2?

rinets: There was always a plan for a german national team in SC2, since national teams have a big history in SC:BW. It is something special for instarcraft.de to host it.
The former SC:BW Ger-Team managers were supposed to manage the SC2 Ger-Team aswell. However i had a talk with instarcraft.de webmaster General Mengsk about the future and the plans for Team Germany and he decided to add me to the management.

From the current lineup, how strong is the Ger-Team in relation to other national teams in your opinion?

rinets: I guess it´s a bit like in SC1 times, we have a wide range of good players, but no top players yet. I suppose that we are as good as other big SC2 nations, like Sweden or the Ukraine in Nationwars with a deep lineup. But those nations may beat us in a setup of only three or four 1on1´s. Although there is not much comparison right now, i think the Ger-A team might be a Top three and the Ger-B team a Top five candidate. Poland and France also appear quite strong to me.

What are your future plans for the team? In which events are you going to participate in the near future?

rinets: We are going to participate with both teams in Gosugamers´ NationWarLeague, furthermore a big Nationwar versus Sweden was set up, but got postponed just recently.

Who´s the strongest player to you at the present in Ger-A and Ger-B. Who stands a good chance to ascend from the Nationladder into the Ger-Team?

rinets: Since we have a wide range it´s really hard to pick a single best player. TLO is very famous, but solid players like GoOdy or Socke are going far in almost every of their tourneys. And we also have HasuObs, former WC3 player, who´s still busy with his WC3 EPS, but performs great most of the times.
For Ger-B it´s a bit easier since Mardow had a tough group, including Infernal and TLO, so he was assigned into Ger-B after some very close games. But he should be the best player in the B Team and i expect him to advance very soon.
Concerning the Nationladder i expect some players who did not participate in the public tourneys to ascend like Brainbug and Xlord.

Lately there has been a good bit of discussion in the german scene concerning Mondragon. Critics say he´s not good enough for Ger-A. What´s your answer to them?
Mondragon is a RTS mastermind and he earned his place...

rinets: Mondragon is a RTS mastermind and he earned his place by performing well in the deciding matches. That´s why he´s Germany-A right now, but he has to prove his skill every week.

Any shoutouts?

rinets: Im in a hurry now and since I would forget too many people I just want to thank Luctory a thousand times for waiting 30 minutes in a tourney, while I was giving this interview.
And thanks to gosugamers.net for hosting this great site with great events.
