Artosis: 'SC2 is absolutely great.'

Dan "Artosis" Stemkoski is one of those all-time communuty favourites who have always talked openly and directly about StarCraft and the e-sports scene in general. Cameron "fams" Carson from Fnatic.com had the chance to get quite the interview from the witty player and the two of them plunge into deeper StarCraft 2 matter besides all the boring questions about race and unit balance.

Artosis has been one of the most active players in the SC2 beta, playing both on the Asian and the US servers. When asked about the game as a whole and if it should replace BroodWar, Dan answers with a cheerful delight.

- "It definitely should replace SC:BW. The game is absolutely great. Anyone who says otherwise simply knows nothing about eSports or RTS games and their opinion should not be trusted. The game is already so close to balanced that its staggering. The remaining imbalances keep shifting around, new strategies are coming up constantly, and every single player has so many flaws in their game, that its almost disgusting."

With the conversation going forward, Artosis talks about his future pro-gaming career and when asked if he would like to join a Korean pro team like IdrA and ret did, he is stone solid that it will never happen due to the life he would be obliged to live.

- "There are a LOT of problems with being on a team like that, and I want no part of it. These players are not allowed many freedoms. Being forced to practice when I’m burnt out, being forced to stay in the house when I want to leave, and having my fate basically controlled completely, by people often times younger than me, and almost always by people who know less about the games and about eSports than me, wouldn’t sit well in my mind.

"The game will grow and grow in skill needed, speed needed, etc."
As further game mechanics are being discussed, Artosis stands by what Garimto shared with him a couple of weeks ago, namely that the game requires a fast and open mind as it constantly becomes more balance and figured out. Thus, whoever works the hardest and thinks the fastest will do the best.

In addition, Dan and Cameron shed light on some rarely discussed topics like map pool, players' skills, build orders and a manner of play.

- "The current maps are pretty good overall. I do see balance problems arising on some of them though. The ridiculously short distance on Steppes will favor someone in the end, probably terran. Also, Desert Oasis, the horrible map that it is, is ridiculously zerg favored. Kulas might be a bad map as well, not sure on that yet. Overall though, a pretty good pool of maps to start out with."

- "I think almost everyone on the US server is playing pretty much wrong, and from the replays I’ve seen on the EU server, most of those players are clueless as well. Lots of build orders simply don’t make sense economically, no one is transitioning well, etc."

With the interview approaching its end, Artosis gives one of his typical facetious comments when questioned about some "ultimate" units like the Thor and the Mothership. "I think that they are ok for now, I guess I don’t care about how farfetched they are as long as they don’t gain levels and kill computer controlled units for items."
