iG triumphs over DK in GEST June grand finals

GEST June has ended with The International 2012 champions, Invictus Gaming, emerging triumphant over their nemesis, Team DK, in an intense best-of-five grand finals. This marks the second major victory for a rejuvenated iG over DK after WPC-ACE season 2.

The June edition for GEST has arrived to a proper conclusion with Invictus Gaming defeating their close rivals Team DK in an intense best-of-five series. The grand finale was interesting to watch as the TI2 champions reign supreme over DK, who are the heavy favourites in winning The International this year.

Rares and branches were burned as the odds were placed in favour of DK. However, it was iG who took away a well deserved victory and have been peaking at an opportune time. The first game saw a little twist from iG's side as Luo was placed on Invoker whilst Ferrari was placed on Faceless Void. Combined with the burst damage from Lich and Rubick alongside YYF's signature hero Nature's Prophet, iG steam rolled over DK's more passive late game oriented lineup.

Plucking a leaf from iG's first game draft, DK picks Faceless Void for Iceiceice combined with the pushing potential from Death Prophet and Shadow Shaman. They opt for Viper as their core carry on Burning whilst giving MMY his roaming Mirana. This kind of early peaking draft out manouvered iG, who had a high burst damage yet less tanky lineup. However, credits were to be given to iG who brought in Windranger and Leshrac into the meta; two heroes who have fallen out of favour.

After levelling the series at 1-1, iG began to show their true colours and did not give DK any chance on making a comeback. They picked heavy utility heroes combined with a single target lockdown and piercing damage from their tri-core in game 3. DK was left clueless as they were unable to capitalize their draft as expected and in the end fell down to iG.

With only one game away from winning the title, iG picked the exact draft DK had opted for in game two. They gave DK a taste of their own medicine and successfully shutdown Burning's Anti-Mage from split pushing. Even Mushi's Templar Assassin and Iceiceice's Elder Titan were unable to stop iG from taking away the victory. Faith and company thus managed to win the grand finale and walk away with $7,000 whilst DK settles for $2,000.

Prize distribution:

1st place: Invictus Gaming ($7,000)
2nd place: DK ($2,000)
3rd place: NewBee ($1,000)
